You remember the first time you met Seungcheol. He was in puppy form: his tail was slowly wagging from side to side, his four legs moving slowly as if taking a leisure walk, and his ears twitching from time to time when he hears something from a distance. You remember the puppy looking at you from across the street, eyes getting bigger and sparklier when you crossed giving him a treat. You remember going out of your house everyday for the next week seeing the same dog waiting across the street, wondering what kind of treat you’d give it that day. One day, you took that puppy in. Which led you to where you were now.
Seungcheol adored you. He adored you so much his eyes always seemed to form hearts whenever he looked at you. 3 months after you took him in, all he got was love, care, kindness and food. You were so patient with him, teaching him humane things he didn’t know, giving him a home since he didn’t have one, and you always took him out and introduced him to different things. Everyday was an adventure for him, because of you.
5 months after taking him in, you started to feel so fluttery around the pup, always wanting to give him the best care and always wanting to ensure he was alright. You always thought of him while you or him were at work (which he insisted on doing because he’s got to help you pay the bills), and you always seemed to wonder how he was.
7 months after taking him in, Seungcheol told you he’s been confused.
“Y/N, I’ve been feeling weird lately. I like it but it’s scary.”
“What’s bothering you Seungcheol?”
“I… I think I feel weird when you’re around.”
You turned to look at the puppy, sitting at the other end of the small couch confusion written on his face. His puppy ears were bending down a little, his eyes trained on your Cookie Monster socks, and if looks could burn, your socks would be non-existent.
“It’s like… I always want pats in the head. Or ear scratches! Yeah, whenever I’m with you, I always have this urge to squish you real tight or steal your full attention by lying down on your lap and make sure you tell me something and play with my ears or something. I always want to make you proud or laugh or smile. My chest gets really heavy and… I always want to go home and not work since you’re not there.”
Your heart stopped and warmed. The puppy looked absolutely adorable and his words made you so soft all you wanted to do was squeeze him in a hug.
“Do you know what I should do? I don’t know. Seungkwan called me some sort of ‘sick puppy.’”
You chuckled and moved to sit next closer to him. He looked up at you, and his lips parted a bit just staring at you. You grabbed his hand, playing with his fingers with a smile.
“You wanna know what I feel? I’ve been feeling weird to y’know.”
He tilted his head making your heart melt in an instant. He was a confused and adorable puppy. How could you not love him?
“I always think about you. I always want to feed and make you the best food ever. I always want to give you head pats or scratches behind your ears. I always want to see that smile on your face, and I love hugging you. We on the same page?”
He gasped. You chuckled and looked at him with fondness. You rubbed his cheek with your thumb, then proceeding to push his hair out of his forehead and give him scratches behind the ear. He closed his eyes and leaned towards your touch.
That night, you kissed each other for the first time.
Now 15 months after taking him in, you’re walking with Seungcheol down the road hand in hand after going to the convenience store to get some junk food for date night. He was saying something silly, causing you to laugh out loud as you stopped by your usual spot near Han river, taking a seat and opening your bottles of milk and chips.
“Have I ever told you what I thought of you when we met for the first time outside your house?”
You looked at him, curious as to why he popped a random question out of nowhere. “Human form or puppy form?”
“Puppy form,” he smiled “I saw your grocery bag and saw that you had strawberries. I wanted the strawberries. But you gave me sweet potatoes instead.”
You chuckled and leaned back when he positioned his head on your lap looking up at you. “I really did try to get them though. I did the whole puppy eyes sitting down thing, and you gave me the sweet potatoes. I mean thanks, but the strawberries were my target.” You laughed and smacked him on the shoulder, eliciting a laugh from him as well.
“But thank you really, you were my saviour, and now my partner. I’m dating a really pretty human who saved me from dying of loneliness and starvation.”
You were thankful you gave that puppy some sweet potatoes that day. If you didn’t, your life probably would be uneventful as compared to now. You’re happy, you’re living life simply yet enjoyably, and you were with someone who appreciated you as much as you did for him. He had a heart of gold, and you loved him with every cell of your body.
You walked home with him hand in hand, him carrying some more junk food, and you holding unto some more. When you got home, he got into his usual habit of taking your coat of for you, hanging it in the rack, and engulfing you in a bear hug, embracing you and giving you warmth as he carried you to the couch and prepared for another night of junk food, cuddles and ear scratches.
He nuzzled his nose unto your neck, muttering a small I love you and eliciting a smile from your lips. He looked at you with his eyes full of sparkle.
“Thank you and I love you. I really do.”
“Remember when Seungkwan called you a ‘sick puppy?’” He looked up at you curiously.
“He meant you were a love sick puppy.” He stared off into space for a few seconds until his ears perked up and sat up straighter.
