Oof, sorry for the wait on this one. I will say, the chapter is very long and a lot happens:
His next question is more pointed: “Do you think Miquella loves Mohg?”
There’s a befuddling note of silence. Haydn worries that he’s overstepped and caused offence, when he sees Ansbach’s fingers drift again to the ruby brooch as though unconsciously. His voice is curiously distant, “Lord Mohg is impossible not to love.”
Which does not answer Haydn’s question, although it maybe answers one he hadn’t asked. He squints at the brooch, which looks like a gift from liege to beloved knight captain if ever he’s seen one. He really has to wonder about the other question that was never directly answered earlier. “Why aren’t you allowed near Miquella, Ansbach?”
hihi!!! i am a huge fan of ghd and am rereading it atm, and since i usually listen to music when i read it got me wondering: are there any songs you associate with chry and miraak? do you perhaps have a chrysanthe playlist even? >:3
Hello! You know I actually don't T_T When I associate songs with stories I'm never quite sure if I'm doing it because it really goes or if it's just because I like the song. This is also in part because I tend towards instrumental music, without lyrics, which is always going to be more subjective.
I will say when I was writing GHD I listened to this song a lot (Deganta - Bear, The Storyteller) and I also think this piano song (Legend - Holland Albright) suits Chrysanthe well. If it sounds a bit wistful, it fits Chry.
Alas that's about it, but I was given a bunch of really great music recommendations over the course of writing the story, too many to really dig up. Maybe anyone who does have music associations with Chrysanthe/Miraak and GHD can chime in?
Apologies for taking so long on the next chapter, it turns out that condensing the start of the DLC into something readable is actually quite difficult. I'm hoping future parts will come easier.

Already quite fed up of this interaction, and moreso at being stared at so shamelessly, Morgott thumps his staff against the ground in lieu of a stamped foot, “Doth thine eye not tell thee as much? Wherefore then must I answer such an inane question! Am I a dog to preen for thy amusement? Let me inside, or not!” Unwittingly his voice slides into a low, bestial growl.
The people on the wall look suitably timorous, but there is a certain wonder shimmering among the gormless faces. They swiftly duck behind the balustrade, but Morgott still hears their murmuring voices carry: “He has the choler of a dancing lion.”
“And he’s thrice-blessed to boot. Quick, find Grandam, tell her another Crucible-touched has come. Perhaps it is a divine message.”
Morgott cares not what auspicious sign they believe him to be; he is here for his own reasons. As indeed is Mohg, and if the people here believe otherwise then they are fools.

UF|IO Morgott 100% has a thing for Haydn's prostheses but he also feels like a pervert about it, so he tries very hard not to fixate too much. It's about 50% his glaringly obvious Knight Fetish (read: Oleg/Vyke/Night's Cav/Leyndell's abundance of knights) and 50% being trusted with the vulnerability.

Now, here me out. I MIGHT be insane, BUT see the vision. PLEASE (I need an emotional support Morgott, so I'm using my adult money for absolute chaos).

So I, um, actually did this with this model. Because I own a 3D printer and Morgott's horns are very hard to draw at certain angles, so I wanted a reference bust. Here he is:
Printed on a BambuLab FDM printer in gradient filament, which makes the overall shape a bit easier to make sense of. Bi flag colours unintended but fitting.
You'll notice that the original 3D model is flipped, I assume for copyright evasion purposes, but when you open the STL file it's easy to flip the model back around so his horns are on the left.
I had to quite aggressively cut off his shoulders because they're like x5 his head size. I started with a cloaked version but it obscures the back of his head. The model does let you delete the cloak so I ended up doing that, and that let me print a bigger bust. The model is very obviously not made for printing so it's pretty rough around the edges, but as a reference model it's awesome.
If you can get the .STL file how you want it (remember to flip the model!), you can send it to a 3D printing company, rather than buy your own very expensive printer. Some libraries have 3D printers you can use and only pay for the materials too.

Haydn waits expectantly. Which then morphs into a slowly-raising eyebrow as he realises that Morgott, crisply-spoken and decisive and impatient Veiled Monarch Morgott, is hesitating. When he does speak, it’s very careful: “It hath not escaped my notice that thou hast been… exceedingly loyal, to Leyndell. And its king. As reward for leal service, it is customary for knights to be offered… a boon.”
He blinks owlishly at him, “What sort of boon?”
Morgott gestures airily. It has a touch of the this is as far as I rehearsed to it. “Few things are out of a monarch’s power to give. Request what thou wilt.”
King Morgott of Leyndell aims to reward a loyal Tarnished knight for his service, but could not have anticipated what the Tarnished would ask for - or where it would lead.
If I get a chance to draw glowy legs, I'm probably going to try drawing glowy legs. So when the leg prosthesis summon got pulled out in @99corentine's Summit, I wanted to render it.
As a side note, I must say I am really glad Bernahl is not a problem anymore because boy howdy was his dumb pierogi armor difficult. Lots of squiggles pretending to be detail. A few closeups of Haydn/the leggies because I'm sure Tumblr will eat the quality.

The entire thing - the staging, the movement, Bernahl's ridiculous armour! - is phenomenal, but the glowing prostheses really stand out as the star of the piece, they look so much better than I could have ever envisioned. Bc like the Tarnished is a clear candidate to becoming Lord, untouched by the squabbles of the demigods before arriving in the Lands Between
And like Miquella could have absolutely known about this considering the Tarnished were sent away on the Long March before the Shattering; so there’s plenty of ways he could’ve learned this + Marika’s plans to call them back to claim the Elden Ring once more
And like there are the details of Miquella being the previous owner of Torrent and the one that had given Ranni the spirit bell to then pass on to us, which would also clue him in as a benefactor to the Tarnished specifically. So like why not have it so that he was waiting for us? Why not have it so that each of his crosses is another step bringing us to him?
And like you could still keep it fucked up (depending on your interpretation for the most part) wherein he still charms his companions/objectively used Mohg as a means of reaching the Land of Shadow and the gate of divinity. Plus like there could be additional things added that would make it so it’s dubious if abetting him is the ‘right’ thing to do. Like Ansbach could still be there. Freya could still be there on the basis that Miquella had cured her scarlet rot. Honestly very little would need to be changed, maybe just a few things added or tweaked.
but like in general at least to me personally it just makes a lot more sense. Bc like I just really don’t understand the choice of Radahn. It feels really hamfisted and just an easy way to be like ‘oh look ew clearly Miquella must be evil’ bc like I feel like that does him and his character a disservice. And like there could still be themes of him feeling like this is something expected of him, bc while I generally am not particularly interested in him, I will admit that he is playing a game of politics and playing it how it’s supposed to be played for the most part, so like I can’t blame him for a lot of the things he does.
He could ascend at the Gate of Divinity and we could meet him as a newly born god free of his curse and be given the choice to join or fight him if we refuse. And like they could’ve kept the cool bug imagery as like either a sort of ‘yeah he used Mohg a scapegoat and is now permanently altered by that choice’ or a ‘he’s metamorphasized into a true god’ depending on how you view it + whatever else may be added to shift everything to this choice instead
Bc truthfully it’s not bc I hate Radahn or anything. I just dgaf about him. Like I don’t have that strong of feelings about him, he more or less Exists but like I think his basegame story was complete. He was holding back the stars and thus Ranni’s fate, the eclipse, and possibly Miquella’s fate to ascend to godhood. And like I feel like this would also eliminate what I think is kind of a gross recontextualization to what the Battle of Aeonia had become with the dlc. I don’t like that it turned out to be bc Radahn possibly said no to Miquella. I think it’s gross and coercive and squarely puts Miquella and his forces in the wrong, which I feel kinda defeats one of the main points of the game that ‘nobody is a good or bad guy and to say so is reductive, instead this is a representation of war and nasty power struggles and the effects they have on everyone’. Like I love Malenia, but like I’m not opposed to her being in the wrong since she is by all technicalities another warmonger in the lineup, yet I at least want it to make sense. Bc like even in the given alternative of they’re fighting him to get him to stop him from holding back the stars and allowing Miquella to fully become a god, they would still be the aggressor but at least it’s justified in their endeavors while still also contending with the resulting nuking of Caelid and whether it’s really worth it rather than just fully victimizing Radahn like the dlc does. Young lion armor description my beloathed.
And like then the Tarnished would also play the role in bringing Miquella’s age to fruition by then becoming the champion of the festival, something already necessary in the dlc as it is and which Miquella mentions in his boss cutscene. Which then I feel introduces a really interesting fork in the road from here as to if you go with Ranni’s age of free will, or Miquella’s age where he (at least seemingly) removes free will to create an artificial age of compassion. Bc like the age of abundance/compassion or w/e doesn’t have to be a good ending. We have a dung eater ending like I don’t think a Miquella one is too outrageous. And like yeah this all makes Miquella’s plans hinge on him waiting for the Tarnished to make the ‘right’ choices but tbf it is a video game and the player is the ‘main character’ so like sometimes things just kinda have to conveniently work out like that and center the player.
Anyways I really don’t like PCR and I think the fight is not very fun

I quite like this take! The trailer (iirc) showing us Miquella on Torrent and then the ‘promise me you’ll be my consort’ line quite strongly implied there was an outcome where the player could consort Miquella as they could Ranni; the fact that Miquella then goes on to barely acknowledge the player feels like an enormous bait-and-switch.
Can you imagine how satisfying it would have been to visit the various crosses and each time feel more and more like you were signing your life over to Miquella? That he, like an insect, was slowly weaving you into an adoring web, and leave it entirely up to player interpretation whether that was willing or not?
If you could do esoteric things (such as, say, dying four times to St. Trina…) to stave off Miquella’s influence and turn against him at the end. If you could not do that and resist him anyway, but you’d be fighting with a massive debuff (an extra challenge mode for all the ER players who love that sort of thing).
If you could opt not to resist at all and have an alternate ending fight against an avenging Ansbach with the Formless Mother on his side, just to bring home that you might just not be the good guy here.
Ahh the missed possibilities!
I do think Godwyn (rather, Godwyn’s still-soulless remains) would have also made more sense than Radahn: Miquella was already trying to do something about Godwyn, it would’ve been a better link to his full-blood brother Mohg as a vessel, and Radahn interfering with Miquella’s fate/possibly also with the eclipse would have been a plenty riveting reason for Malenia to war with him. And we could have had a cool mermaid-horror-themed boss out of it, tying in with Miquella’s siren themes.
BUT, I do also fully get the counter argument that Godwyn is dead and should stay dead. Like that is the whole narrative. He’s gone and no-one can do anything about it.
I will say, what Radahn is good for is demonstrating that Miquella really isn’t going to be any different from Marika. We get hints that Marika too started with good intentions (she also wanted revenge, but I believe she removed the rune of death thinking it would make the world better, not worse) and we all know how that ended up.
Radahn also actively venerates and emulates Marika’s consort Godfrey, the lord of war, and Freya mentions ‘war eternal, to invigorate the soul’. So we already know that Miquella’s Age of Compassion is only going to be compassionate to the people who agree with the system. Now doesn’t that sound familiar??
Anyway yes, there is a point to PCR, and ways he outperforms Godwyn as a Narrative Instrument, but I don’t think he outperforms the player. And it would’ve been WAY COOLER if we had been the Promised Consort all along.
I had an observation about the way my in-game verison of Tarnished Haydn looks, so I made a Thing. My SO told me, and I quote, 'you're going to inflict psychic damage on the world when you post that', but the important thing is that I've drawn it, so it's no longer inflicting psychic damage on me.
