I cannot stress how much of a red flag "I love animals more than people" is.

I say this as someone who used to utter this sentiment a lot. I'm relearning a lot of stuff I believed when I was younger, and these sort of statements are often seen as a sign that you'd rather help an animal over a human being. It doesn't matter what your intention is, the messaging reads like a beacon of "I'm not safe".

I personally always understood this as someone who, for whatever the reason, does not trust people and does not want to put the effort of dealing with people.

Animals always agree with you, they don't question, they keep coming back regardless. I can understand that maybe people hurt you, but this tells me that you are not willing to see if maybe you are also mistaken in how you treat people. Not saying this is OP's case, but it is something I have noticed in other people.

Hope you don't mind me adding your tags because you've hit the nail on the head. I won't speak for everyone who says this because individual circumstances are a thing, but I've recognized a lot of behaviors in pet owners who say this, and despite saying they prefer animals to humans, what I find they tend to mean is "I prefer an animal's unquestioning loyalty over a person who requires my own personal introspection".

Granted I know as many folks who say it because they've been hurt a lot, but the statement itself indicates a level of not wanting to have empathy for another person.

Sorry I keep adding on but these are very good tags. I'm a 37 year old autistic person, and it's part of the reason why I'm being loud about this. I recognize all too well the desire to retreat when others don't understand you or are cruel because that was me most of my young life. But avoiding humans doesn't make the hurt better, if anything you're cutting off a lifeline to effectively having meaningful relationships in the future. It gets better, but never without work. Loving and understanding humanity is a muscle that absolutely needs to be worked on and it starts with simple things like recognizing that some of the language we use to describe our hurt comes at the cost of hurting others.

That sonic post got me thinking a lot, because im glad im not the only who notices people being fine with shadow or knuckles being Black (especially darker skinned) but sonic's blackness is either denied or he is always explicitly light skin. Now, there's nothing wrong with sonic being light skinned, the problem is a lot of people ONLY ever draw sonic light skinned whereas shadow and knuckles are more often than not, dark-skinned, i rarely ever see sonic depicted with a deeper skin tone.

Now its not just sonic fans (primarily nonblack ones) i see this with, its really common in the mlp community too, specifically with how a lot of people defult rarity to white, what beacuse she's prissy, high class and has a white color scheme? Its always been werid to me. It happens with Celestia and Luna too, Luna always being depicted as darker skinned while Celestia is always fairer skinned.

People are doing this with deltarune characters too in a sense "Noelle and birdly cant be black beacuse of x reason!"

Its really werid and racist and idk if some of yall know how yall sound but, newsflash, black people are people, therefore diverse in looks and personality among other things. Crazy i know right? Who would have thought..

White queers are very interesting to me, they cant engage with media made by people of color a lot of the time without some kind of tomfoolery. With Sinners there is 0 attachment to any of the other characters and the white villain is so hot and cool and must be queer, so they ship him with a young black man he's directly manipulating but solely because its him, not because they really truly like the ship they just want the white man. They look at characters and ship them because they're two white guys but you know for a fact they wouldn't be shipped if they were two men of color (especially Black) (oh oh unless their Asian because to white queers love to treat Asian people in a fetishizing way or the token poc or "your close enough to white imo so your fine")

White queer fandom will go out of their way to ship white and\or light skin characters with anyone else but their partner of color, they ignore and avoid ships of color or ships that include characters of color of all sexualities but claim they don't like "x ship" because its het when they treat queer characters of color in relationship just as bad and in my opinion, worse than het ships of color which are already hated and ignored by fandom. Men of color, women of color, queer people of color in ships?? Not on their watch! These can't be cute, they've got too much melanin!

They claim they cant relate to characters of color and ignore feminist and queer stories and experiences of people of color. They say black women in ships are "too good" for the men their with so they take the man and ship him with everyone else because shes "strong and independent on her own and he cant handle all that!" Black character has chemistry with white character? No they dont! Your just reading into it too much! They're boring together according to white fandom!

They must insert their view of white queerness into anything they don't feel they can connect with, thing is about culture? Being mixed? Generational trauma among families of color? Must be about white queerness in some way!

Its not even just white queers, straight white women in fandom do it just as much.
