Driven by Regulation Ferrari 208 GTS, 1980. After the fuel crisis of 1973 the Italian government enacted legislation increasing taxation on cars over 2000cc. This created a market for sub-2000cc supercars including small-bore Ferraris, Maseratis and Lamborghinis. It created the world’s smallest automotive V8 engines, in the Ferrari 1990cc making 155hp. In 1982 a turbo charger was added boosting power to 220hp. The taxation was repealed in the late 1990s
