The Fall of the Grimmstown Beast
One voice catches your attention.
“ENOUGH!”
The shout cleaved through the air, leaving silence in its wake. Thunk slowly dropped his arms from around his head, his expression of nervousness had changed to one of rage. His eyes shone bright blue, filled with anger, gazing directly at the bird.
“Enough. Enough. Enough. Enough. Enough. Enough. Enough. Enough. Enough. Enough. Enough. Enough. Enough. Enough. Enough.”
Strangely, smoke began to curl from the ground around Thunk, and even his own body. Thick and silver-blue, it curled all around him as he repeated the word over and over, his voice seeming to warp the longer he spoke. In the end, all that could be seen was a flickering silhouette amongst the smoke, becoming slightly twisted like his voice. The silhouette’s arm moves, pointing at the bird demon.
“I’ve had enough. You’ve wasted My time with you game, you put your minion in My room, you invaded My mind, and now you’re insulting My blood! Insolence! This will not stand, your insolence will be punished!”
The silhouette raised the pointed arm up in a quick, fluid motion. Thunk, who could barely lift a straw into his mouth, flung the bird high up into the air, until it was barely visible. With another quick downward motion of the arm, the bird careened towards the ground, colliding with a sickening noise and forming a black smeared, smoking crater in the ground.
Just like that, Thunk had defeated the demon who kept them all trapped. He stared for a moment at the crater before turning away from it and towards everyone else. The smoke began to slowly dissipate around him, revealing normal, ordinary, boring Thunk. He groaned quietly and rubbed his face, before his hands dropped, revealing those same bright blue eyes as always.
Eyes that filled with fear as a bronze spear embedded itself a meter through his chest.
Thunk was lifted off the ground by the massive statue of Jedediah Grimm, who had come to life once more. Looking more scared than he’d ever been, Thunk looked around uselessly, legs dangling in the air, before something caught his eye. Monomori flew down from the air, gently alighting on the blood smeared spear.
“Hoohoohoo! Oh Theodore…. you really shouldn’t have done that, but I am so glad that you did!” He reached forward and ruffled Thunk’s hair with a wing, who still looked stuck and terrified.
“It took such a long time to get you to break, flower bud, but it was worth it! Things are gonna get fun from here on out. I just need you to let go and die!” The bird laughed again, and Thunk slowly reached out a shaking hand to place on his head.
“Wannna see- I w- Mmy…. m…. my… maa- ma…..” he stammered around a mouthful of blood, crying for the first time anyone here had seen.
Monomori shook his head and pushed Thunk’s hand off him.
“Poor Theodore… you’re better off forgetting about her. Eventually every little birdy has to leave the nest, right? You won’t have to worry about any of that real soon, bud.”
Like the statue with its massive spear of bronze, the demon produced a floating spear of shadow. Thunk closed his eyes, as though bracing himself, and the spear shot forward, embedding itself through his skull and killing him.
The body hanging from the statue was a reminder. Even in times of victory, the next, final defeat is right around the corner. No amount of power can save you. No hope exists in this town. Nothing exists, but a despair dark and grim.
A familiar ringing can be heard around the town.
“A body has been discovered, thankfully you lot don’t need to investigate for this one.”
