my friend was saying the love interest characters were a bit surplus to the plot. then it came to me in a flash of inspiration.
"You eat carbs, for Christ sake" to "shared carbs don't count"
something something carbs as a metaphor for friendship. chronically lonely 2006 Emily being unable to comprehend a situation where someone would eat such a thing. 2006 Emily who called Andy to ask her to be pals and then never contacted her again. to 2026 Emily who has worked as a team with Andy. Andy who has in turn offered understanding and empathy to her. and that 2026 Emily ordering fries for them to share
