My locals Michael's has the Joann Knit and Sew shop now and while the fabric selection is still pretty mid, the bulk of the aisles are thankfully notions and basics. It feels just like a condensed Joann without the stale air.

Sorry to bother everyone / anyone but when did pink become a color for Halloween decorations?

I know I was out-of-the-loop (and other things) for Halloween 2022-2024, so has this been a thing for a while, or is it new?

As examples of what I'm askin' about, here is a screen capture of pink decorations for sale at Michaels craft store.

Went to a Michael's for the first time since JoAnn's closed.

It was frustrating.

I just needed specific colors of embroidery floss, and watercolor paper for the kiddos' art project.

Easily a third of the embroidery floss bins were empty, including black, and most of the colors I needed... The one employee I was able to flag down tried their best to see if they had any more tucked away somewhere, but to no avail.

I have hated going there since it opened years ago, as it has always been chronically understaffed, and the constant air of stress and depression in that place makes it very clear what kind of work environment it is. So I was very grateful to at least have a JoAnn's, as even though it was often understaffed, it still felt welcoming and the employees were much less miserable until the private equity bullshit happened. Oh, and they always had the embroidery floss shelves fully stocked.

I refuse to order embroidery floss online because the colors look much different in person than the pictures do online. Also most of the time I just need like three freaking colors, and at 79¢ a skein, I don't want to pay whatever bogus shipping fee they'd charge me for my tiny purchase.

Also almost all the registers at the Michael's is stupid self checkout bullshit that is awkward to use.

Fucking capitalist hellscape bullshit.

I just wanna do my silly little ancient craft to distract myself from the hellscape I live in currently without this bullshit.

I learned there are yarns of the queer flags sold at JoAnns fabrics by Big Twist in the USA. They're all $2.49 (before coupons) so I got a bunch. The flags sold (• = I haz it) and their store names (if I know it):

I have one skein of bi, pan, and trans so I can make stuff for others but I got a metric crap-ton of ace and non-binary skeins because those are my flags (demisexual demigender ftw👍🏿) and might as well lol I love how the flags have really sneaky names to throw conservatives of their scent lol

FYI, I got a flyer from Michaels that they're going to start carrying Big Twist yarn. They haven't started *yet*, but they plan to apparently.
