So, I’m an asexual and I have a girlfriend, but I was wondering if my asexuality is the reason why I am sometimes uncomfortable with physical contact from her (hand holding, hugging, sleeping next to each other)? Is this common for asexuals?
It certainly can be. Lot’s of asexuals have trouble with certain kinds of physical contact. I’m a sex-repulsed ace myself and there are days when I hate being touched at all.
I’d recommend talking your girlfriend about it, explaining how you feel and that there are certain times when you don’t want to be touched or certain touches that you don’t like. Make sure she knows it’s nothing she’s doing wrong just what you feel and set up some boundaries and some lines of communication so you can let her know when touch is okay and when it isn’t :D
And always remember, you don’t need a reason or an excuse to say you don’t want to be touched beyond the fact that you simply don’t want to be touched. Your boundaries are valid whether or not they stem from being ace :D
