hey so suddenly i’m back in a kirishima headspace and for unknown reasons so i figured i’d channel my thoughts into a tangible post about why bakugou being kidnapped was such a big deal to kirishima aside from him just simply being his friend so let’s talk about it.
before i start, this is pretty much from kirishima’s POV -- how HE feels about the events and why it was such a big deal to HIM -- not that i personally think these things (if that makes sense lmao).
so... let’s start with the fact that he failed the exam bakugou specifically was tutoring him on. yeah, that sucks a lot. not only did he let himself down, he probably thinks he let bakugou down.
couple that with him being relegated to extra high-intensity classes on top of the ones all of the students had to deal with during the training camp because he failed, therefore unable to participate in the haunted forest event. the event where our guy bakugou was kidnapped.
this meant he physically wasn’t there to actually do anything about it (even if he was there and he couldn’t -- it’s just the fact that he’d never know whether or not his being there would have made a difference). so... not only has he let bakugou down once, now he’s let him down a second time and thanks to later chapters we already know exactly how kirishima feels about being unable to act/make a move/make a difference when situations go south.
he’s not just upset that his friend was kidnapped, he’s upset because in some way he feels like it’s his fault. and i know some k*ribaku shippers are just like “IT’S BECAUSE HE LUVS HM!!!” and i mean sure, that too, but listen i don’t want to reduce it solely to a ship because i feel like that’s kind of insulting to kirishima’s independence and depth as a character.
