i think vtm will remain my favorite ttrpg for many years to come simply because no other game i've seen has the same amount of potential for making powerful hot unhinged woman who can and will actually kill you and this is not even restricted to any clan so you could just have an entire game of different kinds of intimidating women

World of Darkness OCs are particularly funny because you guys will just be posting about them out of context like "damn Nathan got fired from Walmart again" and the Nathan in question is a 3000 year old vampire from a city that no longer exists

Vampires can be very much a threat to reality itself, and their conflict with each other forestalls that threat. If they ever stop fighting, if they fall to worshipping and serving the antedilluvians, no amount of werewolf or mage powers are going to save the world. They're not just sitting off in a corner being self centered and doing nothing of importance- their goals (especially the Sabbat's) are just as much a war for the fate of reality, they're just fighting blindly without really understanding the true consequences of failure.

There's also crossover there! Lasombra is in the soup with Grandma and the Wyrm, and the Tzimisce are absolutely aware of the Umbra and spirits- its the foundation of Koldunism, after all.

It's wild to watch the phrase "tumblr sexyman" morph into "man that tumblr thinks is sexy," because when I first saw the phrase come into use, I always saw it used in reference to the phenomenon of "when presented with a wide array of fictional characters, tumblr will always pick the skinny white man to obsess over, and if the fan-favorite character has no canonical human appearance, the fandom will inevitably create a popular fanon of the character as as a skinny white man."

When I hear "tumblr sexyman," I think of Cecil Night Vale being constantly depicted as a skinny white man instead of literally anything else. I think of the background character white men who get elevated over protagonists that are women, people of color, or otherwise not the white man power fantasy.

"Tumblr sexyman" is, like. An insult. I DON'T want any of my blorbos to win a "tumblr sexyman" poll. "Tumblr sexyman" is the exact opposite of what I want my own OCs to be. If any of my characters ever get called "tumblr sexyman," I will have to immediately re-evaluate myself and the art I'm making.

i’ll go first! my gangrel lauchlainn is… havin a rough go of it. embraced, abandoned, and thrown headfirst into vampiric society, after over a century’s torpor. died young in war after a life of poverty. the only thing motivating them is reunion with their sire.

it’s not that they don’t care about the tyranny or brutality of the various sects. they want the world to be better. they just don’t think they can do anything to change it. in their chronicle, they end up going anarch when circumstances enabled them to pull off a successful coup — but even that was motivated as much by opportunism as genuine belief. i can easily see a world where they end up going cam or sabbat.

lauchlainn might join the camarilla out of desperation for power. maybe it’s after decades of fruitless searching, thinking that if they get high up enough they could use that power to find their sire. convince themself they could do some meager good along the way. probably start working under a sheriff as a merc. the more time passes, the more jaded they become; but they’re used to having to put up and shut up in order to survive til their next paycheck. and if it means reunion — there is very little they wouldn’t put up with.

sabbat!lauchlainn on the other hand — they’re joining that out of desperation for community. untreated ptsd is one hell of a frenzy trigger. maybe they’ve begun losing their grip on humanity, and the sabbat is the only place that doesn’t treat them like a rabid animal. they understand. of course they’re struggling with their humanity — vampires aren’t human. the sabbat coule help them move onto a path. between that and the vaulderie, lauchlainn would probably feel the closest thing to a “home” they’ve had in a century, and let the trap snap shut.
