An Education

Luke nodded in agreement, noting the idea of a sitter. He’d taken notice of some younger heroes around, such as Pixie and Speed, perhaps some ideas for a sitter. Dani rushed over at Ororo’s question and smiled delicately. “No! I’ve seen a picture though… I saw a pig once!” Luke laughed at her response, remembering how giddy she got. He held her hand softly.
“How about we see this farm, huh?”
Ororo grinned at the little girl’s response, getting down to Dani’s level to speak to her, “We have pigs too. And cows, goats and horses,” she tapped a playful finger on Dani’s nose, “and chickens. Sometimes your class gets to go collect the eggs.” She straightened and looked to Luke, gesturing with her head to lead him off towards the farm.
“As far as the farm goes, we’re hoping to reduce our need for canned goods from the old world more and more every year. We’re able to can and preserve our own surplus produce -- but of course there’s got to be surplus for us to be able to do that. So it’s all about making sure that we’re growing enough.” She explained as they crossed the grounds. It was good to have people understand what your aims are, make sure everybody’s on the same page. “The cows are a dairy herd, not a beef herd, we don’t have those kinds of numbers yet. We have the chickens for eggs and meat. Goats and sheep give us wool, and milk as well -- baby formula is hard to come by and goats milk is easier on little tummies.”
