The Batman
Guys ik I haven’t been super active recently but just got back from seeing The Batman and feel the need to tell you how amazing it is so here are my spoiler free thoughts! When I say it’s amazing I mean it. It’s a really captivating experience watching it. The acting, the cinematography, and the soundtrack are fantastic, and they all compliment one another perfectly. It’s super long, but honestly I really liked that, I think it’s just because they took their time, and I’m glad they did, it all felt very deliberate. One of the reasons it was so long was because they frequently slowed down scenes, and when I say they slowed it down, I mean that they sometimes quite literally used slow motion. Oftentimes it was just that the actors were moving slowly, or they’d just find something to focus on to make the shot a little longer. This was purposeful, and worked very well, if you ask me. It added to the tension in a way that put the audience just on edge enough (tense and unnecessarily long without being tedious or irritating), and combined with the eery or dramatic soundtrack had a great effect. The plot was wonderfully paced and kept the audience hooked throughout the (almost) 3 hour duration; they absolutely nailed the darkness of Gotham; the characters were interesting (and again, extremely well acted- I’d like to give a particular shoutout to Paul Dano); it was beautifully shot, complete with some fantastic fight scenes; and I have to mention the soundtrack again, it was exhilarating and gave me literal goosebumps. I think my only complaint would be that it was a little over the top, and cheesy on occasion, but that wasn’t enough to really ruin it too much, or take you out of it. In the end, it surpassed my expectations and I’m eagerly awaiting the sequel.
I'm a Batman fan. And I have a pretty good idea where the 2022 movie got its storylines from in the comics. Except from very, very early promotional stuff (when the movie wasn't even finished yet) I've maybe watched some teasers but didn't read interviews or whatever leading up to today. I wanted the film to speak to me for itself.
Just came from "The Batman". And I. Agree. With this. One of my favorite movies (not "superhero" or "Batman" movies) of all time. I'm really picky about my list.
What I love about the DC stories is the social commentary. This movie was not perfect, but it was cohesive. That's one of the things I look for most in a story - cohesion. And, yeah, it really did keep me on the edge of my seat with its noir thriller quality. I barely noticed it was almost three hours. I liked the pacing. I guess it really depends on what you consider "dragging". This film, it's not for everyone, sure, but it was it for me.
What It's Like
I know what it’s like…
To question my own existence,
To be crushed a million times over,
To hurt others with my selfish pride,
To be dead inside.
But now I also know what it’s like…
To be freed from a debt I can’t ever pay,
To be pursued at my absolute worst,
To be loved with a love I can’t ever earn,
To be forgiven when I should be destroyed.
Because I found out what it’s like…
To be healed because He was wounded,
To be set free because He was chained,
To be alive because He died,
To be hopeful because He is risen.
That’s why I know what it’s like…
To be whole though I’m lacking,
To be joyful though I’m suffering,
To be secure though I’ve been abandoned,
To be still though I’m being shaken.
And I pray that you,
Yes, you,
Will find out what it’s like, too.
