Stardeween Day 2: Decorating
Ariel woke up to the sound of… something stomping around on his rooftop. He wasn’t quite sure what it was or who it could be or why in the world it was on his roof at five in the morning but he wasn’t too keen on letting it stay and harming the animals (or disturbing his sleep any longer)
Personally, Ariel didn’t go to the mines. He might send Mercury down to gather more ores or ask him to keep an eye out for a particular gem if he’s going down on his own, but he did still own a sword. He didn’t buy it from the guild or anything, he just found it in a chest while fishing and decided to keep it, for times like these. He grabbed it and quickly ran outside, looking up to his roof to see a giant spider nested on a web.
……
Not the best thing for someone who just woke up to be exposed to. Ariel let out a shriek and felt the sensation of his soul leaving his body and his body hitting the ground. He swore he blanked out for a moment because the next thing he saw was a familiar face pop up over the edge of the roof.
“Ariel! Ari, are you okay?!” Mercury called out to him, peering over the roof’s edge.
Ariel just wheezed, closing his eyes. “W-Why… Why is there a spider on my roof?” “That’s what we agreed on?” “When?!” “Last night at the saloon! If you paid more attention to the conversation instead of making goo-goo eyes at your man-crush you would’ve remembered more of it!”
Huh, now that he thought about it, Ariel did remember talking to Mercury about decorations for the season until Shane came into the saloon and his focus was entirely shifted. But that was beside the point. “Why at five in the morning?” Mercury huffed, waving a hand at the vast expanse of their farm. “Because anytime later we have to focus on that! And I have a date after we’re finished!” He said matter-of-factly, standing up and motioning to the ladder on the side of the cottage, leading up to the roof. “So you wanna get up here and help me finish? Or you gonna just lay sit on the ground like Henrietta when she’s sulking?”
Ariel rolled his eyes, managing to get up and scampering onto the roof to aid his brother in decorating the cottage.
Soon enough, in addition to the spider and jack-o’-lanterns they made a few days prior, the cottage was decked out in lights and ghosts and a menagerie of Halloween decorations. The twins stepped back to admire their work, finding themselves pleased with the sight. “Sick! We’re gonna have the best house in all of Pelican Town!” Mercury laughed, throwing his hands up. “It’s perfect!”
Ariel chuckled with him, nodding, “Perhaps too perfect… we don’t want to spook anyone, especially the children.” “You’re too paranoid! No one’s gonna get scared from all this cartoony stuff. Now come on, it’s almost six, we have to start letting the animals out for the day.” Ariel sighed and relented, allowing for the two of them to carry out their regular routines as normal. However, it didn’t stop him from putting up a sign warning any visitors about the giant spider to avoid any more near heart attacks,
Stardeween Day 1: Pumpkin Carving
By the time fall came through, Ariel and Mercury had gotten the hang of timing when it came to planting their crops and having them harvestable by a certain time. That included the first batch of pumpkins that the first few weeks had brought.
"Wow, these are really big, Ari! And they look so nice!" Mercury marveled at the bounty as he hauled most of them over to the sale's bin for Lewis to take later that night.
"Yeah, the fertilizer sure did the trick, huh? These would make wonderful jack-o'-lanterns."
"And they will! C'mon, Ari, it's been forever since we carved pumpkins together. We're good in terms of cash, I think we can hold onto a pumpkin or two."
Ariel stared at his brother for a moment before he grinned, nodding. "Alright."
And so, they held onto two of the pumpkins, setting down on the porch to Ariel's cottage for some good old-fashioned carving.
They laughed and joked, cutting up their respective pumpkins. Once they were finished, they sat back to observe their handiwork.
"Nice ghost, Ari!"
"Thanks, nice, uhm…. Nice-- Merc, what is that?"
"A vivid recreation of the time the Harley Street Kids went around defacing the hell out of everyone's pumpkins."
Ariel glanced at the horribly disfigured pumpkin, the poor thing terribly butchered to hell and back and shook his head. "I will never believe you majored in Fine Art."
"Hey! This is an uh…. Abstract piece. Especially when I slather it in fake blood."
"We're not slathering it in fake blood! Jaz and Vincent come here everyday, they could get freaked out!"
Mercury pouted, crossing his arms. "Okay maybe you're right. Maybe." He huffed, lightly kicking the bowl of pumpkin innards and seeds. "What are we gonna do with this? Should I put the seeds in the coops and the guts in the barns?"
Ariel let out a scandalized gasp at that, rushing to grab the bowl. "Are you insane? We're going to cook them and if there's anything leftover then maybe the animals with get some. They're spoiled anyways, they won't miss some pumpkins."
Mercury blinked, dumbfounded for a moment as Ariel retreated into the house. For someone so deeply connected to and loving of animals, he could sure hold out on them when we really wanted to. He recovered momentarily, scrambling over the steps and running inside the cottage. "Hey, wait! We better be making cheesecake!"
Hoohoo!

Fever February Day 6: Fever Dreams
The palace was empty, barren and quiet. There wasn't a single person to be found but a lone child scurrying around the halls in confusion.
Takashi didn't really understand what happened, or why everyone left, or even where they went. He had hoped to ask a nearby maid to take him to the kitchen and get cold treat, since it was awfully hot today, but he quickly found that no one was around.
He couldn't find his parents.
He couldn't find his brother, Asuka.
It was like everyone up and left.
Takashi wondered around the halls, confusion turning to worry, and then to panic. The sweltering heat of the palace didn't really help him feel any better either. It was the middle of winter in Yakushima, why was it so hot? The child felt faint just walking around.
Eventually he resolved to just go to the kitchen, grab something to cool off, and then try to figure out what's happened to the other inhabitants.
The young prince came into the kitchen and staggered up to the icebox, feeling small waves of dizziness from the blistering heat he was navigating through. He opened the icebox, anticipating the chill that was to come, only for some strange monsters of water and ice creeped out, screeching. One had a low, deep voice that vibrated through Takashi's body straight to his heart. The other had a high, shrill voice that made his ears hurt.
“DO NOT DISOBEY US.”
“DO NOT ANGER US.”
“YOU'LL BE PUNISHED.”
“YOU'LL BE PUNISHED!”
Takashi cried out, his entire body shaking at the chanting and a deep feeling of terror shifting out. He stumbled back, trying to get away but the monsters were faster. They wrapped around him, enveloping him in a shocking, choking cold that made him ache and shiver and feel pricks of sharp pains. Despite all of this, he was somehow still burning hot.
He started to cry, then sob, then wail. Panic at him as the monster continued their chanting. But through it all, he felt a gentle hand on his cheek accompanied with a soft voice.
“....shi…”
“...akashi.”
“Takashi!”
Takashi jolted awake, breathing harshly and wiggling around on his bed, only to be stopped by a pair of hands pressing him down.
“Takashi calm down, don't exert yourself.” Asuka's soothing voice called out to his muddled mind as he felt cool, slender fingers press to his forehead.
“A-A…. Asu-Asuka-nii…”
“Shh. It's okay, go back to sleep, Taka.” Asuka crooned at his brother, pushing some of Takashi's sweat soaked hair out of his forehead. “The fever's worse, you need to rest… I'll tell father, hopefully he'll send for a doctor.” He muttered before taking a scrap of cloth that was flung onto the bed during Takashi's thrashing, gently dipping it into a nearby bucket of water and ice and rung it out before putting it gently on the younger's head.
“Even a man like our father wouldn't let his young child be ill like this for long. He'd start to seem cruel even in the nobles’ eyes.” He mused quietly, fussing around with Takashi's bedding for a moment before realizing his younger brother had fallen asleep again during his rambles.
“Get better soon, little one.”
Asuka smiled gently, giving Takashi a small kiss to his head.
Fever February Day 5: Thermometer Refusal
There's only so much obedience you can get out of a Bellerose. Stubbornness is a hereditary trait that flows through them like the blood in their veins.
And alas, there's even less obedience you can get out of a sick Bellerose, as their stubbornness hits it's peak and turns them into willful beings, ever so determined to carry out whatever plans or work their had decided to do. That is, until they're physically unable to or is forced to rest. Even then hints of that willful being in them is determined to peek through.
A prime example of this would be a small occurrence on a cold winter afternoon, spent tucked away in the abandoned apartment complex that served as Cerberus’ hideout.
“No.”
“Lee…”
“I said no!”
Epsilon frowned lightly, eyeing his boyfriend quietly. He had been sitting next to Leo's bed for a good twenty minutes, fussing with him and trying to get him to use the thermometer with no avail. Honestly speaking, he should've been amazed he got this far. He had found Leo wandering around the hideout in a daze, flushed bright red at the cheeks and barely coherent. The chef somehow managed to coax him back into bed, but as Leo regained a full consciousness he started getting stubborn again.
He had fussed a bit about putting on a blanket, and now he was outright refusing to allow Epsilon take his temperature.
“Leo, please… I need to take your temperature… I need to know if your fever is bad.”
“I'm fine, Ep! I don't need a fucking thermometer!”
Epsilon frowned more, though it was hard to tell, gently card his finger through Leo's hair. “Please…? For me…? Be a good boy… and I'll… give you a treat.”
A barely visibly smile came to Epsilon's face when he saw that the promise had captured Leo's interest.
“A… treat?”
He gave a soft nod, speaking gently to the sickly boy. “Yes but… only if you behave and let me take care of you…”
Leo clicked his tongue, giving a disgruntled noise as he huffed out, “Fine- B-But only for the treat-!”
Epsilon's smile grew, though it was hard to tell, and he held up to thermometer to Leo's mouth once more. “Open wide…”
He gave a pleased noise when Leo took it into his mouth, indulging him with a small kiss to the top of his head. “Keep that there… I'll go make you some tea. Be a good boy… okay?”
Leo nodded, prompting Epsilon to give him another kiss to his head and stand up. “Good. I love you, Lee…”
Epsilon got a muffled ‘Love you too’ before left to the kitchen to make Leo something to help him recover.
Leo Bellerose belongs to me, and Epsilon belongs my good friend Beq over at @pitoumugis
Beauty
There's no such thing as perfect
You of all should know
Yet you toil to make sure your body fits the standards of others
No matter how much it hurts
Or damages
Or harms
You fail to see your natural qualities
And allow others to define you
Rather than defining yourself
But you've found people
Those who truly care
They see you as you
They love you as you
They alone know how beautiful you are
They hope for the day that you too
See how you shine as you are
When you release yourself of others’ expectations
A flower, grown from the most harsh of conditions
Weak yet strong, determined,
And beautiful
I hear America's music, a symphony of sound
Cries and laughter, whispers and screams
Everything melding to form America's song
I hear mothers singing lullabies to their children, while some sob because her child is no longer with her
I hear fathers yell, demanding justice for the son whose flame was wrongfully put out by those who promised to protect it
I hear the boy whimper, trapped within a closeted room of lies and misery because he's too afraid tell those around him who he really is
I hear sounds of despair within America's song, but there's also sounds of joyus hope
I hear babies coo, content as they're held in their mother's arms, warm and safe
I hear children laugh, playing with their friends and being able to be themselves
I hear the sweethearts cheer, smiling and holding each other, eyes and hearts full of love
These sounds mix and mingle, putting together the song that is conducted and played by America's orchestra.
Lore? Maybe Lore
Rather than being active during the day, two of their little trio were roaming at night. Olivia and Jacqueline lives revolved around the moon, so they naturally were the ones up at night.
Iris was a wild card when it came to her activity, sometimes she needed sunlight and roamed during the day, but sometimes she wanted to hang near her lovers and made an effort to be up at night.
That night wasn't one of those nights, and she laid asleep in the girls’ shared bed as the others roamed their little cottage in the woods, away from civilization, away from humans, away from danger. It was what kept them safe and out of harm's way.
But the damage has already been done. It became more obvious than ever then.
Olivia had been reading a book she picked up when she made a run to the nearby town to get enough food to last them a while so they wouldn't have to risk going back anytime soon. Jacqueline was taking a shower in the bathroom after running around in woods, she found it helped blow off steam. Iris was asleep in bed, or- She should've been.
The sound of the bedroom door creaking open and sniffling brought Olivia’s attention away from her book and towards the door. She didn’t like the sound. As often as she heard it she never liked that sound. But she waited.
Iris appeared in the doorway, visibly upset, and when she spotted Olivia and her concerned expression she bursted into tears, getting to her before collapsing into her lap and roughly sobbing.
Olivia was startled. Scared because she's never seen Iris get this bad, scared because she could feel the fear radiating off of her. She took shaking hands, gently raking it through her hair.
“Shh...shh….you’re here now, together with us again. Don't worry…” She spoke, trying to keep the panic out of her voice. She liked to think that she always knew what to do but she didn't. When Iris remembered and had these terrors it wasn't her who calmed her down, it was Jacqueline. She'd just hold her close to her and sooth her with the warmth of her body and the sound of her heartbeat. Olivia would've done the same if being a vampire didn't mean she was undead and therefore was cold as ice with a heart that didn't beat.
Iris continued to cry, which made Olivia's heart ache. She shifted her eyes to the door, when-
Jacqueline came in, probably having heard Iris’ sobbing, her hearing was impressive, and being only in the next room it wasn't hard.
Her eyes flicked between Iris’ trembling form and Olivia's terrified expression before shifting over to sit on the couch and wrapping up the smallest girl in her embrace, gently rocking her from side to side while murmuring softly.
By the time Iris had calmed down and fell back to sleep, Olivia was up and nervously pacing. Jacqueline gave her a look, speaking in a whisper.
“They're getting worse.”
“I know.”
“She's having them more often.”
“I know-”
“She can't keep having them, Liv.”
“I know!" Olivia snapped and sat in the nearby armchair, putting her head in her hands. “I know….she shouldn't have them, none of us should have them.” She murmured, it was the first time she had acknowledged that Iris wasn't the only one being haunted by the past, even though it was obvious. Jacqueline would wake up in cold sweats with tremors going through her, and Olivia herself would have to be woken up from her own nightmares at times. What happened back then was far from forgettable.
“Jacqueline, if I could make this better I would but I can't.”
“There is a w-”
“No.”
“Why not? You have the powers to do it!”
“And I don't know how to control it! I could do more harm than good! I-I could cause more scarring or-”
“Olivia.” Jacqueline eased Iris onto the couch and stood, striding over to Olivia before enveloping her in her own hug. “It's not your fault.”
The smaller girl hiccuped, letting a few of the tears that had gathered into her eyes escape and roll down her cheeks. “I-I didn't mean to hurt you…”
“You didn't.”
“I brought us there...”
“You thought we'd be safe.”
“We almost died.”
“But we didn't. Liv- Liv. Look at me.” Using a gentle hand she forced Olivia's eyes to meet hers quietly, expression soft.
“You do what's best for us. That's why we come to you when we have problems. Iris can't keep going through this, we can't keep going through this. You don't know how to properly use your powers but that doesn't mean you can't learn. It'd help us all, more than just forgetting.”
Olivia sniffled and nodded, wiping her eyes. “Y-You're right, I'll...I'll look into how to control them soon…”
Jacqueline smiled down at her, leaning down and pecking her lips, “Good. I love you.”
“....I love you too…”
Lump with me
Lazy Sunday mornings was a rare occurrence for Wallace and Masaki. Wallace always had meetings or errands or something to cause him to be up and about, leaving Masaki to wake up on his own, all alone in their bed.
Not today. Masaki knew for a fact that this Sunday Wallace had nothing important to do until well after noon, leaving them to laze away their entire morning. And that's what they were going to do.
Masaki woke up to shuffling, and the weight beside him shifting, and he quickly sprung to action. He rolled over, laying on top of his boyfriend. “Wallace….Wallace...don't leave yet..”
He heard Wallace grunt, groaning loudly. “Masaki. I have work to do.”
“No, you doooon't...I saw your schedule you don't have anything to do until siiiix….”
“You looked through my legal pads?”
“.....maybe. But still...we can relax today. We can be lumps...be a lump with me, Wallace?”
“A lump?” Wallace spoke skeptically, but he was cracking, Masaki could hear the chuckle in his voice.
“Yes...a lump. We can be a lump together, Wallace, and do lump things.”
Wallace actually chuckled this time, wrapping his arms around Masaki's figure. “A lump, huh? I guess...your evidence saying we can do that is sufficient enough. We'll...lump-” That sounded weird. But it’s what Masaki said so he had to go with it. “....but only until one so we can eat and I can get ready for my evening plans. Because you are going to eat and I am not going to be late for my meetings.”
Masaki grinned and smiled, grabbing the covers and quickly pulling it over their heads. “We're lumping...we’re lumps, Wallace.” He murmured, lazily kissing his chin and cheek.
Wallace snorted, kissing his forehead, “Are you half asleep?”
“....maybe.”
Wallace laughed more, kissing him gently.
“Mm...Wallace…”
“Yes?”
“Call me that pet name again…”
“Ugh- No.”
“Please…”
Wallace groaned loudly, closing his eyes. “Little Bunny.”
Masaki giggled, shuffling closer to him and peppering his faces with kisses. “Thank you, Walmart…”
He groaned more. “Never call me that again. Go back you sleep, you obviously need it.”
“Will you still be part of our lump…?”
“Yes. We'll still be in the lump when you wake up.”
Masaki gave a sleepy, tired smile, nodding. “Okay….I love you, Wallace…” He murmured, cuddling closer to him as he closed his eyes.
“I love you too, Masaki. You really sh-” He blinked, hearing Masaki's soft little snores and just smiled, humming.
“Sleep well, Masaki.” He whispered, hugging him close and kissing his forehead before relaxing. He was gonna be here for a while.
Himeshime’s day went per usual. Wake up, shower, morning class, lunch (even though she didn't need to eat), afternoon class, and dismissal.
Well- It was almost per usual. She hadn't seen Kuzunoha since before lunch started. He had arrived to their morning classes together but disappeared after that. No one's seen him since.
But she didn't need to panic, she knew where he went after all, she could feel his presence in their dorm. And thus she went off to go check on him, but she paused right outside the door.
She could hear him, sobbing. It was quiet but it was there. Kuzunoha was upset. She didn't like that one bit.
Himeshime stepped in quickly, walking over to the bed Kuzunoha was laying on and sitting down. He shifted immediately, laying so that his upper body was slumped across his datemate’s lap, face buried in the crook of the arm at rested on it to hide his tears as he sniffled and cried. She ran her fingers through his hair to try and sooth him, and it worked somewhat, he stopped trembling at least, but still crying.
The oni’s face twisted up in worry, for once, she couldn't figure out what was wrong. At first, she thought he had just overeaten again, but he was behaving properly for that. Usually he'd lay in a position for her to rub at his belly, and he'd calm down instantaneously with her holding him. But he never showed up to lunch, and he was still very much distraught, too distraught for an upset stomach to be the cause.
But then she noticed something on his nightstand, his glasses were placed on there, broken. Did he get hurt? Was it an accident? Or did someone hurt him? That last made her blood boil. No one, absolutely no one was allowed to hurt her little fox.
Ever.
“Kuzunoha.” She spoke, staring down at him, her tone was probably too firm, with the way the small boy completely tensed up. She gave a small sigh and tried again, in a much softer tone while gently petting behind his ears.
“My little trickster….what happened?”
Kuzunoha let out a surprisingly loud sob, curling up in her hold even more. His arms stretching out a bit. And then she spotted it-
The rough, jagged scar that wrapped around his wrist ever so tightly. Himeshime took in a rough breath, she never knew where that nor where the similar scar around his ankle came from, he never talked about. He never wanted to. Remembering terrified him.
But she still knew how to comfort him when he did.
She cooed softly, sitting him up and wrapping his small form up in her large embrace. “It's okay, little one. I'm here.” She purred softly, running her hand through his hair and stroking his back.
She continued to coddle and give gentle reminders of her presence and promising to never let anyone hurt him.
“Y-You promise….?”
Himeshime was surprised by the meek little voice calling out to her, staring down at the other with a look of fondness on her face.
“I promise, my dear little tricker. I'll always protect you.”
Kuzunoha seemed immensely soothed at that. He curled up against her and nuzzled into her body, closing his eyes and letting his breath come out in tiny puffs before it evened out.
Himeshime let out a soft sigh, laying them both down on the bed. She gently stroked his back, letting him peacefully sleep in her arms.
“Sleep well, little Kuzunoha.”
“Stop shivering, it's sixty-nine degrees outside!”
“Heh, you said sixty-nine…”
Lin made a loud groan at the joke, putting his hands in his pockets. This date was off to a fantastic start! He cast his boyfriend a glance, frowning. “Seriously, we aren't far from my place. If you're cold we can go and get something for you.”
Hyosuke chuckled, shaking his head. “I’m fine, babe. You’re worrying too much.” He assured, wrapping his arm around Lin’s shoulder and hugging him a bit. “Besides, if I get cold I can just leech off your warmth.”
Lin laughed, putting his head on his boyfriend’s shoulder as they strolled down the street, past shops with their goods on display in the windows- And one thing caught his attention.
“Hey- Pitstop?”
“I don't see why not.”
The smaller male laughed gently, pulling the other into a small bakery with a content smile. “I've been coming here with my parents and Hideaki since I was a kid. Well, Yuki has- But we haven't been here in a while, nice to see it hasn't changed!”
He explained happily, slipping into a booth with Hyosuke sitting opposite of him. “They have a lot of good stuff, I don't know what to get….” Hyosuke muttered, glancing at the menus that were on the table.
“Actually, I- I thought we could get this…” Lin spoke softly, cheeks growing red as he pointed at something on the back of the menu.
It was a large, heart shaped pastry with a strawberry and cream filling, big enough for two! Or an extremely hungry one.
Hyosuke felt his own cheeks heat up at the proposal, smiling at Lin with a nod, “Yeah, I’d like that.”
Five minutes of ordering and shifting so that Lin was on the same side of the booth and in Hyosukes arms to appeal to their need to be the most grossly affectionate PDA couple in the property later the two were- Still in each others’ arms. But now they had a pastry and hot cocoa.
“Hey Hyosuke?” Lin said between bites of the treat, only to be stopped by Hyosuke blocking his fork (forkblocking, as he called it), “Hey-!”
“Stop hoggin’ it! Half of it’s gone and I’ve only had two bites!” He protested, only to laugh at Lin’s pouty expression and lean over to kiss his forehead, expression going soft. “I’m teasing, babe. Have as much as you want. What did you have to say?”
Lin swallowed a bit, looking up at his boyfriend with a soft noise of uncertainty, reaching into his pockets, “We’ve....we’ve been dating for a while. A few years, yeah? It still seems like yesterday I ran into you at the academy…” He laughed nervously, which caught Hyosuke’s attention and made him nervous.
“Babe? What’s going on?”
“N-Nothing, I promise! I just need to...oh, screw it-” He huffed, pulling something out of his pocket- A small box. A ring box.
Hyosuke’s eyes went wide as saucers.
“Lin-”
“Let me finish. I’m not- I’m not proposing marriage, not yet. I know how you want to take things slow and all but-” He opened it up to show two small and simple promise rings.
“I want to let you know that I’m going to wait for you. I’ll wait for you as long as you need me to. I love you, Hyosuke. And I want to be able to call you my husband one day, no matter how long it takes.” He gave a shaky smile and pulled a ring out, taking Hyosuke’s hand.
Hyosuke felt like he was going to cry, fuck- He was crying. Lin just took that as a yes, smiling with his owns tears and taking the ring, slipping it onto his ring finger before putting his own ring on.
“I love you.” He whispered, leaning up to kiss his boyfriend’s tearstained cheek lovingly.
“I-I love you too…” Hyosuke whispered back, wrapping Lin up in his arms and kissing all over his face.
“I love you so much…”
