Our setup here in Lochmaddy at Taigh Chearsabhagh. Thanks Andy!!
Our Island Life exhibit up in An Lanntair
Day two of our Design for Island Life exhibit. Here at Taigh Chearsabhagh sharing the work of our students.
On the ferry over from Harris to North Uist. Getting ready for our second day.
Our Design for Island Life exhibit out on the road. First stop An Lanntair
From our Symposium exhibition last week in Stornoway
Another card from the postcards from the edge set, showcasing the desire for better transport across the Isle of Lewis. The increase of tourism has brought an increase in coach traffic, however, these private tours do nothing to the infrastructure of the island population.
One of the postcards, from a collection of ‘alternative postcards from the edge’ showcasing the ‘minor histories’ of the islands. IN this instance the wind farms that are at the moment not being subisidised and their tariffs increased. Perhaps the National Grid doesn’t want to let go of its islands.
Utopia should be understood as a method rather than a goal. This book rehabilitates utopia as a repressed dimension of the sociological and in the process...
FOund out about this book this week at the Nordic Ruralities Conference (ruralities.org). Going to see what it’s about!
A selection of postcards from our session, showcasing the various ideas and issues of thoughts from the colours of the Hebrides to the matters of fishing and crofting, to the rain, and the labour of the land.
At our postcard workshop earlier today.
A view of the rains that are a constant reminder of the weather here on the islands, by one of our workshop participants.
On the croft in North Uist in a region known as the Black Lands. A crofter shows me their land, where we discuss the idea of crofting the hardships behind and we explored a thought experiment about land ownership, territory and tenancy.
A small workshop in Uig to create the community board in the cafe this past weekend. While keeping a simple graphic for the main board which will hold changing panels of the Ionad Hiort project, we also had children from the community collage together their own map of St. Kilda.
