princissa:
The despicable that was uttered could have been taken as sarcastic had it not been for the person it came from. Knowing she had Dorcas there to complain with was like a blessing. Even after all the rumors started floating around when she got kicked out of Beauxbatons, surprisingly her attitude towards Narcissa never changed which was a relief because while there were friends that stayed loyal, the same couldn’t be said about many families in the Sacred 28. “Oh, definitely not, and I wouldn’t want you getting your hands dirty. Besides, with the way people are talking about me, they should know I’m already capable of doing that myself.”
Her hands were placed on her hips, leaning her head back to sigh, looking as if being in a crowded bookstore was already too much for her. “I’m alright,” she replied with a nod, “I guess this is what trying to work your way up to the top is meant to feel like? It’s a little exhausting I think I already need a spa day after integrating back into normal society.”
“We could definitely have that arranged? A spa day? I’d actually enjoy that myself,” though, Dorcas wasn’t going to complain about her situation, at least about the things she didn’t really acknowledge or talk to virtually anyone, but the surface things? Easy. “It’s exhausting, it’s a never ending climb, after my father passed it became a full time job for my mother and I, though people have received us a lot better than they’ve even received you. I promise you, it’ll get better, I won’t give up on you and keeping you in the Know, I’m sure Rodolphus won’t either. You’ve got people, Narcissa, you’re not alone.” There was a warmth in her words, a sureness too, she hoped it would help her friend feel a little better about the situation she was dealing with which was quite a messy one.
IF she had had the courage then, Dorcas would’ve complimented her rebellion in excess because Narcissa had done what the majority of them could never dare to do even if the was yearning for it. It was an act of art, it was an act of rebellion that Dorcas had only dreamed about and while she had ideas, plans, the occasional daydream -- she had never actually acted. Narcissa deserved this because she knew the consequences of leaving someone to stay suffocated in a life they were unhappy about, she’d seen what it had done to her father -- hopefully it wasn’t as deep for Narcissa. Maybe, hopefully, Narcissa had found some peace in it. “Besides, can I ask you, was it worth all of this? The scrutiny? Because if it was, then that’s what matters, I think. You’re one of the special ones that could come back from ANYTHING -- even this. In a few years time, no one will remember this.”
