Taking A Break...
I love cake. Well, I should be clear... I LOVE making cakes, baking cakes, designing cakes, and more importantly... feeding cake to friends and loved ones. The last 3 years have been an incredible roller coaster of flour, sugar, sweat and yes, sometimes tears! I have been lucky to fall down the rabbit hole of creative cake making, and it consumed me completely... every cake I made led to 2 more, 3 more, 4 more creative cakes people asked me to make.
Over the last few years, I got to be a witness to baby showers, wedding showers, 90th birthday parties, 50th wedding anniversaries, weddings, and more. I have had many more successes than failures (thank goodness) but oh... those failures wrecked me and haunt me still. That's just life, I suppose, but I mean it so say that I never took any of the things I was asked to do lightly.
Anyway... this year, it is clear I need to take a step away from the business of making cakes, back to the business of taking care of myself & my family. I have two young kids who would like to see me more on the weekends (an impossible task when you run a cake company), a husband who might like to see me more in the evenings, and a body that just can't quite keep up with staying up all night for hours on end every week.
So! I won't be making any cakes for sale for a few months in order to catch up on rest, but I'll still be quietly working on cake techniques and styles in my studio. I'll put up those photos as they develop. There are some massively talented bakers who are baking their hearts out locally, I suggest you give them a call if you are looking for something special coming up. I personally recommend Heather of Sweet Heather Anne's because she is as sweet as she is talented. Bryant over at Decadent Delights, Mary at the Jefferson Market Cakery, and Gwen of Gwen's Cakes in Saline are all wonderful cake artists, too.
Thank you!
