A hotel room in Kampala that Robin was particular about reserving for a while. It has it's own bathroom and a table. Crazy times back then, with Mefloquine rotting our brains, and all the other people around us falling apart too. I haven't been here in a couple years, so it's weirdly familiar. Sort of unresolved. Is it possible to haunt a place while you're still alive? I hope my spirit doesn't choose to come back here after I die. Also, why is there a fireplace in Uganda?

Terrorism

This is the point in my journey where the largest regional terror organization has built enough momentum in my area to change my behaviors. I am a Christian and a Westerner in a country were Christians and Westerners have been announced as targets by the regional terror leadership. This was happening before I arrived in this country, but the situation has become more critical.

I read an article about the Pope decrying the persecution of Christians by ISIS during his Easter Mass, and something about that was unsettling. I think it is because Christians are challenged to find their honor in being persecuted for their beliefs as Jesus was. Being in a situation where something like that could possibly happen to me, I find an uncomfortable resolve in this. It would have been fortifying - and less violent - if the Pope could have mentioned this. Criticism of the Pope is not a can of worms I’d like to open, so I digress.

If I am able to get through this, I look forward to the day when I can share this experience/post with my children, and possibly grandchildren. It’s an opportunity to live out those things that I believe. If I’m not able to get through this, then just know that I am satisfied to be persecuted as a Christian. My inner sense of cosmic justice from the whole ordeal will be greater than that of the terrorist killing me.
