amaryllis:
The darkness greeted her as a friend. She sighed, chin up and eyes wide open searching for some kind of sign. She wondered if her brother would be waiting for her above the clouds, as she did nearly every night after his death. She’d never rest. Neither pray. She stopped beliving in Gods the day she entered a battlefield. The poems, the fantastic stories about war, they were all lies. No god would let his dearest creation become the architect of their own destruction. “What are you apologizing for?” Amaryllis said, brows furrowing as she heard the woman babble. “I don’t own the skies, m’lady. You can still behold it for free.”
it had been the mythology that came with the constellations that had enraptured her so. how some could see a line of stars, and others could see the figure of a king, or a queen, or a pair of ill-fated lovers landed among the stars. her gaze remains on the woman beside her, a warm smile curving the corners of her lips. “i don’t really know what i’m apologizing for,” a chuckle tangles with her words, a shrug lifting silk-draped shoulders. “i was just very distracted with calenhad.” her hand lifts to gesture to the constellation. “i didn’t expect to see him in kederrkath.”
queen katerina:
‘ there’s not much a queen cannot get, darling. ‘
“oh,” she giggles “i suppose that’s right, your majesty.”
nyla:
nyla ducks out of the servants quarters some nights, when the air in her dank room becomes too stuffy, too pressing. she never has liked walls, these impenetrable buildings so different from canvas tents and tall trees bearing hammocks in the warm seasons. never will she grow used to being so very boxed in - cornered within every room and building. eyes go wide as the finely dressed, visibly pregnant woman moves to stand. “oh! no, ma’am, there is - i was - please, there is no -” she stumbles over the words. her elder sister has had children before, and nyla cannot help but worry for the woman’s condition.
the girl’s protests are waved away with a smile, eyes returning to the window. “it’s alright, i think i’ll survive standing,” she had been deemed fragile the moment her pregnancy was realized. she’d had to convince her husband to even let her accompany him on the trip to kederrakath. “i’m not a porcelain doll, simply pregnant.” her eyes turn to her new companion with a smile, eyes skipping off the scar marring her cheek. “oh, apologies, dear, if i’m interrupting your duties--?”
irina:
‘ you’re gettin’ a WATER, right? ‘
“yes, yes, of course. just wondering,” she gestures to her stomach “for when i’m free to drink again. i’ve never had nohanwan ale.”
bad influence:
‘ i think the mechanism is just TELLIN’ the barkeeper what ya wanna have, ‘nd they’ll give it t’ you. ‘
“oh,” a laugh “i suppose you’re right.”
defensive:
‘ why? ‘s it yours? ‘
“no, i meant that.”
“how did you get that?”
I lived my entire life as his shadow. One day he just walked into darkness… not once thinking that this shadow will fade away.
i’m currently at a thanksgiving party but i’ll work on replies as soon as i get home!!
“ I think it’s great to be flawed. I am hugely flawed, and I like it this way. That’s the fun of life. You fall, get up, make mistakes, learn from them, be human and be you. ”
she’s stargazing. it was a habit of her’s. umber gaze usually lifted upward, and that night, the sky was clear, stars filling the vast firmament. she enraptured in the brilliant sky, paying no attention to her new companion, her eyes mapping out every constellation they could find. they traveled across the three stars that made up calenhad’s raised arm, then the four that made up his sword, and it wasn’t until she turned her eyes back down to the book in her lap that she realized she wasn’t alone. “oh!” instinctively, she moves to stand, which she succeeds in doing after a momentary struggling with her swollen stomach. “apologies,” accented words pass smiling lips as her head lowers in a slight bow. “i didn’t realize i had company.”
