Hi! I see you're studying bespoke tailoring, I'm french and highly interested in studying this discipline, can I have a few infos on the college or uni you are at? Are you at the newham college? Thank you very much and your blog is damn cool

Hi, oh brilliant its a great thing to study and I love it! I am in my second year at UAL- London College of Fashion. My course is a 3 year long BA(Hons) degree. In terms of content we do 50% tailoring and 50% design, as well as doing written work on cultural studies- this bit makes it the academic degree, I know Newham is very different as the course isn't degree based and they therefore have a lot more practical tailoring time than we do- which is something to consider if you want study Bespoke. 

I really enjoy the degree at LCF as I think we get knowledge in a number of areas, not just practically and of course you come out of it with a degree which is important to a lot of companies.

Interning with E.Tautz

In the week leading up to London Collections Mens (January 2013) I interned with E.Tautz at their studio Patrick Grant and the team were absolutely lovely and I got to help with all aspects of show preparation as well as working backstage. 

The collection is great- I think one of the seasons best ( I may be slightly biased) and I especially recommend that you check out the dog jumpers!

Final Jacket back- with Toile alterations (WORK IN PROGRESS) 

I have kept the Chevrons, but on my final Jacket I want to make sure the chevrons are a pointy as possible, not curved on the tips! 

Also for the illusion of more shape in the back the panel has been taken out along the shoulder and graded in to the waistline. (NB. just pinned down at the moment!)

Jacket Toile- Chevron Back

Over the past few weeks I have been working on my design toile for my icons project. 

As part of my concept I have been looking at creating a hybrid between traditional formal bespoke and subcultural style. As well as incorporating inspiration from my icons (Richards and Kubrick) as Richards is famed for 'the art of print clashing' I have been trying out ways to create print/pattern out of suiting fabrics rather than just using a print.

Tim Burton: The art of Frankenweenie

As part of the London Film Festival the BFI held an exhibition on Tim Burton's new film Frankenweenie and the art behind making the film. 

Inside there were many of the models and sets from the film as well as Burton's original scripts and character drawings, it was absolutely incredible, you could even have a photo taken with you in one of the sets.

If you are a fan of Tim Burton or are just interested in stop motion animation I would definitely have a look!

Today as part of our research we visited the Stanley Kubrick archive at London College of Communication. 

It was great, so interesting and so many things to see!

They have over 80 metres of Kubrick archive featuring props, costumes, scripts, advertising, research, designs...  

I think my favourite item I saw had to be a newspaper from 'A Clockwork Orange' with the headline, 'Scientists have cure for crime' with a picture of Alex underneath. 

There was so much I didn't get the chance to see so I will be going back on Tuesday for some more research.

Advanced Style

In an otherwise boring cultural seminar today we were shown 'Advanced Style' a blog, book and now a film, surrounding a group of elderly women who feel that old age isn't a reason to dress in a nondescript fashion. 

They are absolutely brilliant, their sense of fashion is incredible and they really do challenge the cultural constructions of ageing and style.
