Kira, her goofriend and the homoerotic tension between him and his archnemesis

Okay so this post about Amok Time is making the rounds again, which reminded me I never finished reading that magazine. So I kept reading and...
Remember how the Amok Time script that aired was a "tame" version of the original script?
WELL that's the original one. How I wish they would have left this in. I have so many thoughts that I can't put into words correctly. So they were aware of SOME of the homosexual undertones of the K/S relationship? Did they leave the rest on purpose, or did they just notice this one?
So is that why he's called Stonn or...?
I'm glad they changed this part but it would have been hilarious
This article is so short (I'm pretty much uploading everything but a paragraph and a half lol) but it's a ride. T'Pring who is gaslight gatekeep girlbossing Stonn. The invitation to the Enterprise which can't be regulation. Spock crying again!! But also so fucking rude of Chapel, if she knows about the paralyser, not to say anything lol. I'm glad they changed all of this (except, maybe, for Spock crying).
So yeah. Spirk neck touching communication being pleasant. And the catastrophic failure of removing one scene that could imply a homosexual relationship in the "Spock jizzing his pants" episode that originated slash and modern fandom. Iconic
Star Trek: Enterprise writers: and you're sure? You've checked everything?
Some poor intern or something, eye bags darker than the dried coffee stains on their shirt: Confirmed. There's no mention of it in any existing Star Trek franchise. Across 25 total seasons of 5 shows, and 10 movies, over the last 40 years, there is absolutely zero conclusive evidence that Florida survives to see the founding of the Federation
ENT writers: excellent. Fkin send it.
Been thinking about his eyeshadow
Watching Ds9 before TNG and having Quark be a fav - just to see the origin of the ferengi is … off putting
i just think he’s neat
Whatever Garak's sexuality flag is, its being flown upside down to indicate distress
"There was no culmination to Julian Bashir's arc outside of getting together with Ezri" incorrect! He got to kidnap the man who tortured him and force him to commit suicide ✌️
I know this is an ice cold take but watching TOS was shocking because I thought Kirk was a womanizer before going in and no it turns out he just loves falling in love.
I blame the 80’s.
The original series came out in the late 60’s and early 70’s during civil rights and the whole hippie free love movement. It was deemed sexually liberating and empowering to be free of judgement and have as many partners as you want. Believe it or not but things like Playboy used to be considered progressive.
But then the 80’s came. And so too did the aids crisis. And suddenly all that free love felt dangerous and reckless. There was strong pushback against women’s rights and conservative values skyrocketed. Moral panics ran rampant.
So all that free love and progressiveness got reframed as womanizing and misogynistic. Even TNG, which started under Gene Roddenberry’s thumb, struggled because it was too much like the original show and people were uncomfortable with how much sex and sexuality was infused into everything (Season 1 was very horny). So all of that got stripped away in later seasons.
There are so many episodes where Kirk defends his female crew mates from the dirty looks and anti-women jabs from unprogressive aliens. It’s almost quaint now because all of that would be labeled as “woke” if it was attempted today…
I'm probably going to finish a big and serious empok nor art soon, and well, uh. while drawing the serious one i had an epiphany and it looked like this.
GO MILES GO flirt them *cardies* to death
Dr Bashir I Presume is sort of the quintessential DS9 episode in how it casually drops a world shattering character reveal as just one element of the A plot. It’s like
Bashir has been chosen to be the model for a holodoctor!
They need to interview people who know him well to create a psychological profile for the program but - uh oh - he doesn’t get along with his parents because
They had him genetically engineered when he was six to “fix” the perceived flaws in their perfectly healthy child in his natural state which is highly illegal and stigmatized and he’s lived in fear of being found out since he was 15
he considers himself a fraud and a monster and in all the years we have known him he has been stifling his abilities to appear more normal. he has carried this secret for so long it is almost a relief to be free of it and when he walks to his captain’s office to tender his resignation it is not with anger or sadness but rather a weary resignation.
Will Leeta and Rom get together?
“HAPTIC FEEDBACK”
The reason I haven't been writing much fanfiction is because the original fiction bug bit me again. And it's weird because I can tell so much of it is now inspired by Star Trek, the problem is that if I were to tell anyone this, and then they read the manuscript, they probably think I missed the point of Star Trek (well, a chunk of people would, not the " I just want to see the federation and romulan's shoot at each other" brigade).
Because I'm writing something that has a lot of violence in it and it's a lot of fun over the top violence, and one of the things that deeply impacted me about Star Trek was how non-violent it could be, and how we can choose non-violence even in our stories of adventure. I don't know why it resulted in me writing something with more fighting in it.
I think if I ever finish the story and I have to explain the Star Trek influence, I'll have to frame it as " it's kind of like one of those planets they go to with a lot of hyper specific problems, except that's the entire story."
I like how the changelings caused a bunch of stringent rules to be made to make sure they didn't infiltrate any organization meanwhile surgery that makes you look like literally anyone has been around since TOS.
"you don't understand. The changelings observe you, and once theyve learned what they need, they kidnap you and replace you. The only way we can tell is with a blood test."
"Oh good so we can use the exact same protocol we use to deal with cardassian sleeper agents then"
According to profit and lace, "sex change operations" are easy enough to be done completely in a short period of time but are rare enough that this is not the first conclusion anyone comes to when they look at Quark or what Quark has.
Do you think this is secret federation tech. Like if you're not part of the federation you don't get access to the unlimited surgery options or knowledge.
I don't know if it's secret, but I'd imagine the Ferengi know very little about it and most Ferengi doctors refuse to do it or never learn the procedure (it may even be illegal). A society with that rigid of a gender hierarchy definitely would not like any form of trans people- trans men because they upset the social hierarchy by showing "biology" doesn't restrict women from being good at business and therefore undermining a tenant of patriarchy, and trans women because they're women and worse, women who make a mockery of maleness by rejecting it.
At most, some Ferengi may know about sex changes from tabloid propaganda mocking the Federation. The concept is likely taboo enough that none of then considered Quark had gotten a sex change for that reason.
