So I asked an expert this.

And the answer was no. I got a long detailed response, but summed up, red blood cells are fragile little bastards. The blender wouldn't be the issue, it would be the movement.

You'd end up with a bunch of blood cell debris clogging up small arteries, and white blood cells going apeshit trying to break down that debris which would turn you bright yellow.

Then you'd die. Because those dead cells would make your organs shit themselves, in particular your kidneys, and make them shut down, leading to Death.

Or you could set off an auto-immune haemolysis, which is a breakdown of normal red blood cells, because your immune system goes on a fucking crusade and can't tell the difference between healthy and dead cells.

More likely both.

But that's even if you manage to get the blood into a blender, because you might go into shock from blood loss, because 1L is about 25% of the blood volume of someone's who's 70kg.

Interestingly, even drawing blood causes some blood cells to break down. which... sucks for vampires, I guess?

i think watching too much star trek has warped my ability to analyse characters from other media because i’m constantly like… isn’t it fascinating to think about why someone who does not have to worry about money at all would choose to keep going back to a job where they are repeatedly traumatised, disabled, and nearly killed?

there is nothing on the line for them except for their self-worth and sense of purpose, and that makes the willingness to endure such horrors even more insane, and thus compelling to me. they are suffering by CHOICE because of something so fundamentally wrong inside them that the thought of Not Suffering is one they treat as a fate worse than death, like it’s a condemnation of them as a human being if they choose to walk away from objectively traumatic circumstances.

they can do good in other ways, they may even get the option of giving themselves some rest while still doing something meaningful and worthwhile, but it’s still not enough. if they are not overwhelmed and fucked up by it, then it’s not enough.

as though their suffering were the only proof they can have that their life means something after all.

I mean, speaking as a Crit Care nurse, i could be doing nice community work with very little possibility of people dying on me but I would be bored as all hell and it wouldnt have anywhere near the job satisfaction. Part of a career, to me, has always been the ability to help people and high acuity work often does help people v immediately and in incredibly impactful ways. I would still do my job if I didn't need to worry about paying my bills or for food. I might maybe just work a little less.

Not to propagandize about pregnant Garak but the funniest time for that to go down is mid season 7.

Think about it.

Garak and Bashir are at the tail end of their divorce arc and both incredibly depressed and traumatised. They have emotionally messy breakup sex once and then go back to being broken up.

Queue three months later, Bashir's in a situationship with Ezri and Garak is about to leave for the resistance. Bashir insists on giving him a physical before he leaves the station and ... Surprise pregnancy! Its obviously Bashir's but Garak wont outright say that because Garak never outright says anything.

Bashir wont sign him off for the mission because of the pregnancy. Hé tells him he has options but wont push for abortion because he's too emotionally involved. And he's projecting a bunch of shit onto the situation.

Garak is conflicted. Paranoid. Volatile.
