Since it's mother's day, I wanted to talk about my darling asl brothers and their relationships with mothers/mother figures.

Out of the three asl brothers, the only one who actually remembers spending time with their biological mother is Sabo. Supposedly, Sabo had a typical family life, with both of his parents present on his life. The reality is much worse, though. Because Sabo's mother was never nurturing or supportive of her son.
Sabo's mother (alongside his father ofc) had very materialistic values, as it is shown by them advising their son to marry a princess so they can climb the social ladder. Her idea of happiness equates to wealth.
Even when Sabo was assaulted by another, she neither cared about her son's wellbeing or offered any comfort. All she cared was how the other family would perceive Sabo, and by extend herself.
She's at best a neglectful mother and at worst emotionally abusing towards her son. And exactly the same can be said about Sabo's father,too.
Look at her seeing Sabo after a long time he was missing:
Her only concern was his bad smell...mother of the year right there!!(/s).
Compared to his biological parents all the other parental/mentor figures Sabo had in his later life were far better.
When he was ten and started living with Ace and Luffy, Dadan became the adult who was taking care of him (just like she was taking care of the other two boys). For all her good intentions, she was also not the nutriting type. She loved Sabo and was a far better influence than his own parents but she didn't provided him with the emotional support a child needs ( and neither did any other adult around). So, while the time he lived with the mountain bandits was probably the happiest of Sabo's life, it again lacked the warm embrace of a mother.
Unfortunately, this happiest time of his was cut short after the incident where he lost his memories. After that, he stayed at the revolutionary army where he was treated fair but again he didn't have a loving mother ( or parental in general) figure in his life.
For me it makes sense that the current Sabo doesn't have physical intimacy towards others, despite having such a kind and loving soul. He love humanity and shows kindness even towards strangers but it's understandable he rarely if ever physical affectionate towards others. Because he was shown that kind of affection ( or any kind for the matter) by his mother and his father.
Anyway, since Didit Outlook doesn't deserve the title of mother I'm closing this meta by sharing my wish that one day Sabo will reunite with Dadan.
