Not canon, but damn I wish it were. It would add so much depth to his character and answer questions like how Hook knew about Neverland, where to find it and how to get there.
Hook was an educated gentlemen who went to Eton college and turned to piracy serving under Blackbeard. He became a man even Long John Silver would be afraid of.
How, why and when he came to Neverland isnât told, but its implied that he did it because he feared his mortality. Yes, Peter is the only one in Neverland that never grows up, but it seems other people living there age at a much slower rate. Which is why Hook, a pirate of the 18th century if he served under Blackbeard, is still alive in the early 20th century, based on the 1900s year the book is set in.
Itâs the true symbolism behind the clock and the crocodile. Time is forever stalking him, like a patient predator, waiting for its chance to strike and consume him completely.
Itâs also why he hates Peter so much. Peter not aging while he continues to grow older, albeit at a much slower rate, is a source of jealousy. Time does not stalk Peter.
But Peter cutting off his hand and feeding to the Croc reminded him of his mortality. It set the predator stalking him and reminded hook that time is consuming him, one small piece at a time. He may have delayed it by coming to Neverland, just as he delayed the crocodile being able to easily capture him by the ticking clock being inside it. But he canât escape it forever.
What Hook fears most is dying.
Hook being a former lost boy who had adventures with Peter but then returned to the normal world, but in growing up grew embittered with adult life, turned to piracy to try and relive those adventures in his youth, probably not finding they were as fun as his childhood adventures, fears growing older, and found a way to return to Neverland, only for his old friend to not welcome him back, but to cut off his hand and forever remind him that he will continue to grow old and die one day, is really the best development of the character that there could be.
