personally I think it was intended this way, since it shows Uncle John's intentions were set from the very start. As in, he knew exactly who Lucien was and /that's why/ he introduced MC to him, rather than introducing her to his 'ordinary' colleague and only finding out who Ares was after the fact etc. At least to me it drove the point across and acted as that slap of ultimate betrayal, making Uncle John's actions neither excusable nor redeemable
