My thoughts on the G+/YouTube integration, if you care.
Can I just say this first, congrats to Emma for her video becoming an overnight success, I myself couldn't write a song that quick, let alone play the ukulele! But I personally feel it slates the situation without explanation, unlike Hank Green's video where he examines the product itself. I'm by no means saying G+ is perfect, I've spent the last three months stressing over it all at work, I've had all types of issues. The connectivity has caused us to loose complete access to two accounts and vast confusion, but I'm lucky to have a contact at Google/YouTube to sort these problems. But the fact is I'm seeing the exact same response when the channels changed. Instead of thinking about it, playing around and seeing the real positives and negatives, people just assume and follow suite of others who have the popularity vote, almost like they feel they have to agree because the review has been done for them. My opinion is a little bit bias as I've very much been involved in the process, I got invited to YouTube over a month ago and got to preview the new comments system, they listened to our ideas and suggestions and are putting them in place. A warning to all did do out on the 24th of October I think, yes I agree it could of been broadcasted a lot better, but if you're doing YouTube as a career then you should be aware of these updates. However, it could of been made more clearer, emailed out a few times, banners notifying on login. There are issues, there are bugs and yes they are annoying. The reply issue was confirmed as a bug at YouTube yesterday (I was there), along with multiple comments being spammed, I can imagine the amount of engineers and programmers working their asses off to make it work for us and them. Trials of this feature would of been complicated to do, sometimes things like this just have to be rolled out and problems can only be fixed when live. If you think technically about all this it's a MASSIVE job!! I could rant on even more but I'm not, instead I'm going to suggest you stop complaining if you are, look into all this, play around with it all and see how it can benefit you. If there are massive issues then report them, if you're stuck then check the YouTube help section, there are lots of admins there to help with your queries. YouTube/Google are more likely to listen if certain features are wrong/can be modified rather than people just shouting out that everything is terrible. If we help them by being a lot clearer, then it'll make it easier for them to help us. Please feel free to discuss below, I'm interested to hear your opinions and I'll let you know if I can help :) Helen
