In a culture of superior ethics
One’s usual excuse for not avoiding animal products is the man’s ability to sovereign the animal kingdom – until it’s consumed. Because men have discovered fire, they have developed technology and expanded their notions through civilization as more powerful, all established by the financial system that is formed each time. In modern times, speaking of a financial system that lives off the competition of power, its more than expected to develop such perceptions in favor of superiority. That being the case, the need for ethical thinking and sentimental vitality is drained, so one can succeed in a society of such nature.
The “meat is murder” preaching fails most people exactly because they have forgot how to perceive when something is not moral to do, unethical or -politically speaking- bloodsucking (both literally and metaphorically), meanwhile accusing other of being too emotional or reactive. Thus they give in to a violent system that gains from their typecast living. Exploiting animals (human or not) for fascination or profit has become part of a system that only knows of fast and mass production, in the cheapest possible way. One doesn’t have anytime to think and feel, critically doubt their habits and start anew. Therefore, consuming and killing is considered normal, unavoidable and necessary for the continuance of today’s society, whatever the means.
It’s not a surprise that humans have come to exploit other animals to the point that the planet has become a field of constant slaughter. Humans to begin with, developed civilization to actually protect themselves from the wild, MEAT-EATING animals that posed a threat to them. Now the achievement is carried out, they feel they have the right to exploit animals in every way possible, thus taking after their previous savage enemies, the carnivorous beings of jungle whom they wouldn’t cope with had the civilizations not occurred. The feeling of power and superiority is at its peak, now more than ever.
That having been said, it’s more than expected for the superior ones to exploit other beings as well, such as women or lgbtq+ people who stand as different in the current world and threaten the benefited ones. Cisgender, macho meat eating people are afraid of the ones that may change the current society that benefits only certain types of humans. Hooked to the law and financial system game sets, the so called civilized people do not bother to expand their visions and think outside of the given box, but they rather suck themselves inside a seamless act of self-justification, avoidance of responsibilities for their actions.
What is the need for beings that apparently exist to feel (the only feeling left) a little bit more superior everyday and vote every 4 (or less) years to get someone in power above their sullen heads? Fear towards a conjured up normality and reality is nothing more than not realizing how unreasonable silence kills away and consents for anything cruel. The politics of normality
Normal and natural have become one cup of the same tea. Natural has mostly to do with nature itself, whereas normal is more or less a social creation to promote religious or cultural traditions, no matter how deep their politics are analyzed. The thing is that human civilizations do not see nature as natural (although that is not always a problem) but they sometimes purposely mix naturalness with normality to form a new set of ethics, usually using nature as a politicized justification for personal or massive issues (and that is a problem). Normality lies in the eyes of the beholder.
It is socially acceptable to see animals as insentient creatures that benefit humans in any way possible, thus normalizing practices of malice. That disrespects their nature to be free and feel, by constantly conjuring up myths around certain species (the only way we give credits to each of them as somewhat “special”) in order to make reasonable excuses for the consequences. Meat, dairy and eggs for instance are promoted as natural sources of protein etc but in reality, the case is that it has actually been passed on as normal to see people killing, testing on, using and eating animals without any critical thought on the issue. Behind the scenes, tradition is mostly a justification of such practices as a cultural kind of thing that gives people a certain identity along with a feeling of (social) safety. Choose your culture.
Now, what happens with straight and cisgender people?Answer: exactly the same, with only a change in species. There is only a gender dipole that is socially acceptable, man and woman each with their certain, limited characteristics. This goes for sexuality as well, man for woman and woman for man and that is the most natural (normal!) thing to do, isn’t it. Anyone who stands out of this given situation/identity is considered as an outlaw, different or freak. Trans people are seen as crazy and insentient, suffering from low-self esteem and body dysphoria in general. In an attempt to normalize this group, society has promoted them as hypersexual silly “things” that entertain the straight group like in a high-class circus and that’s only how much they are worth of. Categorized as objectified freaks, they are pushed out of social circles as secondary beings without feelings (like the so called insentient animals). Obviously, their right to their own bodies is not recognized as it’s only the consumers that have credits on all the bodies of all species, prioritizing the social normality instead of one’s own right for self-created or naturally given identity.
Our cis society knows one perception of looking at things through the myth of normality. Non human animals can’t have credits to themselves and their bodies just like the lgbtqia+ group. Production and overconsumption is a priority for the market and the states, through the logic of cultural traditions and religion; like, only certain animals are accepted in every culture based on these factors, the sacred ones for worship and the sacred ones for consumption of every kind, thus also rationalizing for the lgbtq+ people being sex maniacs with self issues that consume each other behind the colours of the rainbow.
