Question for queer people, especially white queer people, who live in the first world; Don’t you ever get tired of using the pain and strife of queer people in the third world and previously colonised countries for humour?

Based on the replies and arguments going on in this thread I’d say no. This joke has been said countless times now and it’s never funny. YOU are not illegal in 72 countries. In fact most of these countries that persecute the queer people who live in it are more than happy to take your tourism money.

YOU live in the nice first world and this is a funny haha joke to you. And God forbid someone calls it out you all want to wax poetic and drop fancy humour and satire analyses to defend. You would all literally bend over backwards to defend your right to just say anything than show empathy or actually do something to help the people who’s struggles you make jokes about.

There is nothing you can do or say that would make you deserving of abuse. It’s impossible to not be good enough for being treated with respect and dignity every human being deserves. You can’t lead someone on to abuse you, and you can’t make yourself a target. This is all done from the side of abuser, and all of these are only excuses. They don’t decide to abuse you because of any other reason than themselves being monsters and enjoying the disgusting mind games of causing harm. The reason they come up with is just an excuse to justify their sick actions.

You could have done everything in your life right, and they’ll still abuse you. You could have broken yourself to please them and it still wouldn’t be enough. You could have given them everything they asked for and they would still hate you. Every time you reach their standards for who you have to be, they only move the goalposts. You are not wrong for being the way you are, and you couldn’t have done anything to stop their sick intention to hurt someone who never deserved it. You are good the way you are. I send you all my blessing. I made enough for my *medical abortion and for some clothes to thrift due to the mold situation. Winter is coming around and I’m still having a hard time with housing and I am nervous of course.
