When I was 12, I read a book called “Running on Air” on Wattpad, obviously, a Harry Potter fanfiction. Now I was expecting something more cliché, something 12-year-old me would've found entertaining, but Running on Air is so much more than that, the plot goes like this: Harry is a detective, and Draco's been missing for three years, harry gets assigned the cold case, but he can't find him, no matter how hard he tries. That is until Draco starts trying to find HIM. It's beautiful, I genuinely cried because I'm all big on running away, and this book highlights impromptu road trips and leaving stuff behind just because. “Forget your obligations.” They travel throughout beautiful parts of England, fields, and they just drive. There are also themes about how coming home is especially hard for people, and I deeply resonate with it. I deeply resonate with it. SO DEEPLY. So if you want a mystery that'll have you on the edge of your seat, and a warm angsty teary hug. THIS IS PERFECT. Thank you 12 year old me for having such good taste.
