last night i had a dream that i read a fanfic where mike and will were in love but then will died in the finale and after his death mike and lucas got really close in their grief and fell in love but then the plot twist was that will wasn't actually dead. and in that point in the story i had to scroll up because i had gotten really attached to mike and lucas' relationship and i didn't want it to just be a byler fic but thankfully it turned out to be a poly romance. anyway will came back and they had to tell him and he was heartbroken and it was really awkward but he slowly built up relationships with them, separately and together, until finally they asked him out and they lived happily ever after the end.

my main gripe after processing the finale (keeping in mind that i think everyone involved did awesome with the time and budget they were given), is the loss of the genre.

good omens was originally a comedy. i mean, the first season was about an angel and a demon losing the anti-christ and was ended by said anti-christ basically telling his dad to fuck off. season two was basically fanfiction.

to be honest, i think the issue started with aziraphale leaving, which left the writers of the finale no choice but to make the last episode over-dramatic, with no time to expand the story or keep any of the comedic beats in.

i think the show kind of lost it's own soul a bit, which makes me sad, especially for anyone who might watch it in the future, but i still think the writers of the finale did the best they could, and to me, crowley and aziraphale are in their own universe living happily ever after.

like yeah, i didn't hate it, they're so self sacrificing they gave up their lives on the slim chance humanity might be better, they're in love and we know it, they find each other in every universe.

and yet, all of that. six thousand years, just fucking gone. they're not the same people as anthony and asa, aziraphale and crowley are gone, forever.

maybe i'll come to appreciate the ending but for now it just hurts.
