Reasons Why Max and El’s Friendship is So Important

They’ll get to experience growing up together in similar ways, vent to each other, express their fears

It’s a first (for at least El, but I can imagine maybe Max as well) having a girl best friend as close as they seem to become this summer

They both get to do all of the cute fun 80s summer-y things together that they can’t necessarily do with the boys the same way (listen to absolute BOPS from the decade, sing their hearts out, talk ABOUT the boys to each other)

El will get to learn more about herself through Max and same for Max, and El finds a fifth person she would snap a neck for

Although Max is a skateboarding arcade master, she’s singing and dancing around in El’s room, with El as her friend she knows she can be whoever and however she wants.

Shows can do such a BAD JOB showcasing real, authentic, genuine friendships between female characters. We can already tell they’ll be there for each other, thick and thin, through it all and back, they’ve seen each other for who they really are, and nothing can get in the way of that

El and Max aren’t your average young girls, they’ve already defied the odds about what it means to represent how important women in the media are, so showing them being girly, feminine, fearless, and strong together is what everyone needs to see.
