For any fans of Penguindrum, what's the appeal? For me its just plays around with so many symbols and metaphors it feels like such a mess of an aesthetic. I feel like I can grasp at what it's trying to say, I just don't care.

did anyone else watch penguindrum after utena and just got extremely disappointed by the depiction of rape. Like I love utena and i think it does a great job of dealing with the hard subject matter it choices to depict. And then I get to penguindrum and the SA scene is just one of the worst ones I've ever seen. Like its sexualized and then it just turns into some slapstick humor at the end with shouma trying to save ringo. I could go more in depth but i just need to get it off my chest. how can this be from the same guy that directed ep 33 of utena
