One of my characters I'm considering making Caed-AroAce, but I couldn't find any caed- edits, and with the unique flag it was a little difficult to think of ideas

But eventually I got the idea to use the contrasting stripes to make a dual stack of books, since my character is an avid reader

My A-spec Headcanons - #17: Asexual Akira Mado (Tokyo Ghoul)

When I first watched the anime, I thought she gave off an ace vibe and that’s when I first headcanoned her as asexual.

In the manga, at one point she is actually called asexual by Seidou, although it seemed to be an insult to mean closed-off and cold-hearted. But still, the actual Japanese word for asexual was used. (Twisted Hel Scans translates it literally, but other fan translations and the official english translation by Viz don’t use the word asexual.)

I’m not sure if I headcanon Akira as an alloromantic ace or an aroace. Either could work and make sense. 

There’s not really anything that disproves she’s aromantic. Although there was a scene where she tried to kiss someone, the kiss was more about proving a point than about attraction. Not to mention, some aros don’t mind or like kissing. 

Although the kiss ended up being blocked in this scene, she does succeed in actually kissing him in :re. Even if that kiss was based on attraction, she could be demiromantic, or somewhere else on the aromantic spectrum. By that point, the two of them have gotten to know each other a lot more and decided to live on together.

There were different translations for that very same line from various groups, so if you read the version released earlier, you probably saw something akin to “emotionless” or “cold-hearted”, but it wasn’t accurate.

In the Japanese raws, here’s the same panel:

「武器マニアの無性愛者だし」“She’s an asexual with a weapon obsession.”

(Literally: “She’s an asexual with weapon-mania.” Japanese people love to use the English words “mania” and “maniac” to describe any sort of passion.)

The bolded term, 「無性愛者」, is read as “museiai” and refers to an asexual individualーsomeone with no interest in sexual activity. If you can understand Japanese, here’s the Wikipedia page. If you can’t, the description is the same as the English equivalent anyway.

Asexuaity isn’t really a well-known concept, and the proper terminology is even less so; with that said, it’s safe to assume this is not meant as an off-handed “insult”. Rather, this bit of dialogue comes from Takizawa Seidou, someone who has been familiar with Akira since their days as students, and thus it wouldn’t be strange for him to have heard it directly from her. (Especially given his self-declared rivalry; if you want to compete against someone with skills superior to your own, you need all of the information you can get.)

Is Mika by any chance Asexual?! I’m just curious being ace myself!

I do actually have some headcanons about Mika being ace! Though I headcanon him as asexual I don’t see him as a sex repulsed ace, but rather just  has 0 motivation to engage in it. In canon it’s basically a fact that he’s asexual, since Kagami said vampires don’t have any sexual desires, because they only want blood, but Mika still holds a lot of his human feelings for Yuu, so he’s a-ok with getting intimate with him, albeit being very awkward. He never initiates intimate contact - that job is to Yuu - as he’s more of a hand-holder/snuggly kind of guy. Yuu is too, but he does enjoy being much closer to Mika every once in a while. That’s in canon; it’s a bit different in this au. It takes much longer for them to have a relationship like that (sorry guys). And Yuu is obviously way more pushy, ‘cause he think Mika is just like every other guy teen that’s repressed all these deep, sexual urges, but really he’s just an anxious boy that craves positive affection in a more gentle manner (he’s a mega tsundere in this au), even though he would never admit it because he’s a strong independent man that doesn’t need anybody to care for him! But don’t blame Yuu, he just doesn’t know any better. He would be super understanding if Mika would just TALK! ABOUT! HIS! FEELINGS! Communication is key to any relationship kiddos!

how about. ace mika feat. cuddling. mika figuring out which kinds of physical intimacy he likes best. sometimes its too much; hes been alone for so long, abused for so long, it’s uncomfortable to be touched like this. and other times, he craves contact and seeks out yuu (or, later on, another shinoa squad member) to sit on the couch with and read under a big pile of blankets.

and; they stay a few days in an old library, left mostly intact from the apocalypse, and mika happens to see a book left out on a table. a romance novel, or something. he reads it absentmindedly that night while the other are asleep.

and has the shock of his life when the female lead declares herself to be asexual. “i just don’t feel that way for anyone,” she says. “i never really understood what everyone was always going on about. I actually thought something was wrong with me, you know? but this is just the way i am,”

(he drops the book to the table and cries and cries) (there is a word for it. a name for me. humans feel this too)

To celebrate Asexual Awareness Week, I am drawing pictures of some of the characters I headcanon as asexual.  Please keep in mind that this is just a headcanon, and I hold absolutely nothing against those who do not have the same headcanon.

Vio - Asexual Homoromantic

Shadow - Asexual Panromantic

Of course I headcanon these guys as asexual.  Look at Shadow’s color scheme - the boy’s practically a walking ace flag!  Plus, I feel like his story - of feeling alone and ignored and not-quite-human - parallels a lot of peoples’ experience being asexual in some really heartbreaking ways.  And don’t get me started on how Vio is the first person to really listen to him, the first person to understand him…

Basically these two are my ace OTP 5ever.
