Holly’s dirty glare had backed down many cocky comments. Right now, though, it lacked some of its usual heat. This was partly because, of course, Kay was right. It was also in no small part because of the fact that Holly couldn’t really get angry with her friend. And the joke was all meant in good fun, anyway.

That was true enough, Holly supposed. Most elves would probably get a little fire happy too if they had the power. She nodded.
‘ I guess I wouldn’t say no if someone asked me. Oh, yeah, you want to shoot fire? Who turns down that? ’
Some part of her was repulsed by the idea of what she would be like as a goblin. But a morbid part of her, somehow as strong as the rest put together, enter- tained the idea. Goblins didn’t have a lot of brains, to put it politely.

“Cheers.” She smiled, taking a quick sip. “At least I’m off right now… If I were still on shift, the commander would kill me…”
Not for the first time since Trouble took over the com- mander’s acorns, Holly felt the urge to let out some creative curses. Shifts were brutal enough, but she had no doubt Kay would need to fill out a thousand and one papers about the inc- ident as well.
‘ Don’t forget Grub. He’ll kill you too if he doesn’t get his papers on time. ’
Thankfully, those would be due tomorrow. The LEP’s rules could be lenient some- times.

The extra weight wasn’t a bother. Holly just laughed, shoving Kay a little to get her on her own two feet and then leading the way toward the door.

Thank the gods for how fast the caf machines are under the world. If there’s one thing Artemis and the world aboveground can never match, it’s caf that seems to spring out of the machine in a few seconds max.

A sweet jest to smooth over her brothers rude remark. Had they been at home, she probably would have punched his shoulder for that. But here? He was the CO. That was NOT the image she was looking for.
Trouble scowled at her. The typical one that usually got thrown at grub for pouting about ‘mommy.’ He didn’t like that nickname. But then again, being on Holly’s bad side was worse than that, so he gave her an apology and ducked out of the door. He had things to do anyways.
Once Trouble was gone, Holly let out a quiet huff and walked over to Kay, draping an arm over her shoulder.
‘ Thanks for the save. A lecture was not what I needed. ’
She amended that:

Holly winks at the other female, snickering.

It was common enough these days, gods knew, to get a burn in the line of duty. But the re- mark about Butler stings. She’d done the best she could at the time, and if she hadn’t - if she’d waited for the warlocks - it was likely that the human would have been lost entirely.
She doesn’t show her displeasure at Trouble’s words, though. He’s right about the outcome… she just wishes he wouldn’t say it so callously, not out of caring but purely as a tool to nag his sibling.

“I know. Didn’t want to.” She replied back. “She’s way better than the medics.”
Being able to just sit down and let the magic work its, well, magic, is certainly a perk compared to lazing about in a healing ward for hours. Holly grins. Whoever said simple remedies can’t be the nicest sometimes?
The minute she starts to grin, Trouble’s pout makes Holly roll her eyes. He’s still pulling the same old guilt game, it looks like.
‘ Come on, Trouble. You should know how this works. You might as well just come straight here by now. ’
Not strictly the case, if only be- cause the severity of everybody’s injuries has been ramping up as of late. It really does depend on the gangs and what they’re up to on any given day.

After a few hours did Kay finally awake, only to find a worried brother next to her. Of course trouble had found her. She grunted as he looked over the injury he could see. How was she supposed to come up with a story for this.
“hey trouble”
Holly wakes up, stretching. That was a good nap. She feels a lot better, now that the drain of heal- ing has had time to dissipate. At least, she feels a lot better until she hears Kay’s voice to her left:
‘ Hey Trouble. ’
Oh gods. Trying not to look guilty, Holly cracks open one eye to see just how much Trouble (pun in- tended) she’s in.
At least he seems to be focused on Kay for now.

The magic felt like pins and needles as it repaired and replaced what was lost. It wasn’t until the sparks dug deeper that she started getting drowsy. She swayed for a moment before swaying into Holly, out like a light.
Just like Holly predicted. Kay should be dead to the world for a couple of hours, at least. Her body is going to need the rest to recover from the energy a heal- ing takes.
A little nap sounds quite good to Holly as well. She can get a few minutes of sleep in; the paperwork on her desk is mostly done already. It’s one of the perks that come with being on very good terms with Artemis Fowl - he helps to manage the massive tide of documents in his spare time. Remotely, of course, which means that he can only aid Holly with the digital documents, but the help is valuable nonetheless.
After making sure that Kay is com- fortable, Holly slumps into her own desk chair. Ah, she’s glad she did a bit of a deal with Foaly to get that special cushion. It really does make her spine feel better.
‘ Won’t hurt to get a little sleep. ’
She mutters the words quietly, not expecting anyone to reply, and soon falls asleep herself.

He tends to hover like a nervous sprite when it’s bad like this so I kinda had to…”
It’s becoming relatively common for injured officers who don’t want to go to the healing ward to come to Holly for treatment. The elfin Captain has mixed feelings about this: on one hand, of course, she doesn’t like going to the medics either, but they really are the best bet sometimes for serious cases.
‘ I know how he gets. Don’t worry about it, Kay. Just breathe a couple times. ’
She waits a beat.
‘ Okay. Ready? ’
Holly thinks the word. Heal. The magic wastes no time, rushing to the surface and flowing through her hands to target Kay’s injuries. The hypnotic blue sparks are like an army in miniature; teams repair the damage at the surface, and in turn they’re backed up by other teams that slip below the skin to work on any damage underneath.
Very efficient. And it looks like the damage is going to be almost completely gone after this, too, which is good news.

“Little buggers were hurling them at public works sprites. I went down to stop them, and at first, they complied. Then they started fighting, so I arrested them. They managed to point blank me in the shuttle before the fire suppression system put them out.” She replied, easing into the chair. It still hurt tremendously, despite being partially healed.
Damned triad goblins and their fire-happy ways. The majority of goblins are sweet and harmless, if usually quite dim-witted. But there are always the ones who get sucked into the B’wa Kell and other factions like it, to become mercenaries and low-rank thieves.
Holly takes a steadying breath as she kneels in front of Kay, placing her hands on top of the areas with the worst damage. ‘ You’ll probably pass out for a bit, but don’t worry about that. That’s why you’re in a chair. Just don’t try to fight it. ’
She’s found that if fought, the heal- ing coma can be very similar to the anesthesia used by human doctors. That is to say that if one goes under in a foul mood, they tend to wake in a foul mood as well.
(Holly may or may not know this be- cause she tends to react violently when coming out of healing comas as well.)

Safe Haven
It was just another day in Police Plaza, especially for Commander Trouble Kelp, even as cliché as that sounds. My whole life is a cliché, he thought, grumbling as he picked up a stack of files. Oh Commander I need you to sign this. Commander can I get overtime? Commander Kelp, I need two weeks vacation, so I can go to the surface for a family trip. It’s little Jimmy’s first ritual and my wife and I want to make the trip memorable. He rolled his dark violet eyes, walking out of his office. Oh he had heard it all this week and it wasn’t ending anytime soon, unfortunately.
He went around the cubicles, tossing a file or two down on each desk, without saying anything to the fairies that occupied the office space. What was there to say to their groans other than to suck it up and do their jobs? He kept up with his daily routine, stopping only briefly to hear what Grub had to say about that weekend’s upcoming dinner with their mum. He sighed and just nodded. He didn’t have time to take off work, but it seemed like he’d have to because if he didn’t, he’d never hear the end of it from the two of them. He ended the converstaion by tossing a stack of 4 files onto Grub’s desk. The elf actually liked doing paperwork and only Frond new why.
He continued on his way, the last set of files needing to go to Foaly, as they were approvals for his latest project. Hopefully he wouldn’t regret signing that budget for the centaur. He didn’t have time to deal with a crisis because one of his inventions malfunctioned. Granted, that didn’t usually happen, but you honesty never knew. He just hoped it was going to be something useful.
Up ahead, he saw a familiar elf, just standing around. “Captain Kelp! Shouldn’t you be on patrol?” He called. It was pretty familiar with everyone’s schedules, but sometimes he did mess up. He couldn’t remember if Kelp was on first or second shift, but he was sure she’d correct him if he was wrong.

“Ahh, no Sir. My shift just ended actually…” She’s got her helmet nested in her arms, hummingbirds on her back and her faithful neutrino still in it’s holster. “Two riots handled, lassoed a few goblins hurling fireballs at City works sprites.” If he looks closely, her suit is a bit melted. She’s clearly hiding it with her hair. Yes she spoke to one of the warlocks about it. And yes, she noticed it only after she had sent in her report.
Trouble nodded. “I see. Very well, I trust it all went smoothly?” He asked, looking her over to make sure she was injury free. He made a face when he noticed the portion of her suit that was melted. Oh great, a work related injury. But when working with goblins, that was sometimes expected.
“Ah Captain? I see your suit is a bit damaged there. Do you have any injuries? Have you filed a report about it?”

"smoothly is not the word I would use." She grimaced when he pointed the injury out. "Report was filed, then I got a point blank fireball right before the suppression system did its job. What you see is a result of all my magic being used. Im pretty sure it's not supposed to hurt this much."
