such awesome characterisation for frank, I feel like he often gets flattened into, honestly, I dont even know

any thoughts on ray meta? what's his deal....

ray's deal is interesting in a sort of mundane way, i don't think he's quite Touched in the head like the other three however he is not immune to their radius.

to me it does boil down to gerard seeing ray as an equal and even admiring him, as Of Course gerard's perception and ranking of his bandmates does determine their worth and if they're on his soul suck chopping block/roped into the happenings of as much (of course).

though i think ray's disadvantage comes from adoring gerard, he's very much a yes-man and prone to arm-twisting into some less savory things than he's comfortable with or would ever have any desire to do.

he would not be directly subject to gerard's tendencies (read: equals) but i like the thought of him as an unwilling unenthusiastic cleanup crew for the unavoidable impact gerard has on frank and mikey (read: unavoidable).

the vision is frank/mikey interpersonal turmoil (on account of the Impact) and gerard wink-nudging ray like "kids amirite lol" and watching them squabble dogfighting style with ray observing in disdain and mild horror at himself for not involving himself and for noticing the cracks in the Gerard Facade- he's more distressed at himself for thinking gerard could do bad than the fact gerard is torturing his nearest and dearest.

he'll turn a blind eye because it doesn't challenge what he knows of gerard and wants to continue knowing of him even when that perception is challenged, and also it doesn't implicate him. deniability warrior but it is not even a little plausible.

generally ray is unscathed beyond a bystander crisis every now and then, as well as picking through the rubble gerard leaves in his wake and gluing the shattered remnants of his friends back together to get back on the road and do it all again tomorrow, rain or shine or complete breakdown/overdose/etc.

☝️ cleanup crew duties involve gerard too, naturally #messybitch. shockingly i do have a lot to say about ray/gerard specifically in terms of ray being there through every twist and turn of gerard's perpetual rollercoaster lifestyle/existence and seeing it through in even the bleakest of times. believing in him especially when it is not hopeful or worth it
