my ideal fgm meta is majorly built on that hierarchy idea we love so much around here. frank falls above mikey in the food chain in a way that is undesirable and unproductive to him, evident jealousy of both mikey's suffering situation and of the Special Sibling Status he can't reach or replicate is what makes it for me.
to me frank is a glutton for punishment in a way that he wants to feel how mikey feels when he's subject to g's whims, which is to say he wants to hate it, but all attention is good attention and he has the both the physical and emotional masochist gene mikey lacks, rendering that desire futile.
i think he also wants the flavor of emotional turmoil and in-turn dealer's suffering that gerard's whole Everything with mikey comes with and not his own flavor Because at the end of the day, with mikey, that connection (for better and worse) is indisposable. gerard cannot toss mikey aside like he can frank and he'd kill to have that security.
that's not to say gerard is not horribly intertwined with frank, i feel like that gets lost in translation in a lot of fgm stuff. gerard likes frank in an entirely different complex way than he loves mikey, frank wants that good bad and ugly of what they have.
if frank and mikey were treated exactly the same, were at the same level etc, it would not be enough for frank, refer back to afforementioned unachievable sibling connection. breeds internalized and externalized insecurity, i smile fondly imagining frank vying for attention and lashing out at mikey simply for the crime of being the eternal apple of gerard's eye.
