These labels were done 2 years ago and were fun to do. These labels had character so I couldn’t pass up drawing them

I’ve always loved bottles and labeling. I guess it’s the varied shapes and the way light reflects off and refracts through glass bottles. I used to collect them as a kid. In some ways I still do. As a new pandemic hobby I’m revisiting this old collection by drawing labels and bottles I find interesting.

A sazerac is an American drink from history, a French inspired New Orleans bead drop of cognac with an American barrel aged whiskey gut punch.... 2 different splashes of unique bitters and a rinse of absinthe , knife a bit of lemon skin like space ghost meets Tom yorke and you have a drink of culture, a melting pot that’s as amazingly beautiful as a sunrise over an ocean front harbor. It’s a conversation in a glass. Past, present or the unknown of the future.... it opens your mind to those around you and pulls you back to those before you. Here’s to history, here’s to memories, here’s to those fighting for each day, here’s to hoping for a better sunrise and a happier sunset. Votre Sante’ ... cheers.

After leaving Dunsmuir, CA I drove out to McCloud, CA. It’s a beautiful old town with a strong history. It had the largest lumber mill in Northern California at one time. Now called The McCloud Millworks it’s a multi-use site that includes many diverse businesses! The main building is 106,000 sq ft and is an amazing sight to see! The current owners are very friendly and community oriented. I was lucky enough to be able to view the property and take in its beauty! The tracks are part of the mills old railroad. Now called the McCloud Railway Company. It was home to engine #25 which was the train in the movie Stand By Me.

Dunsmuir, CA. An amazing little railroad town right off the I-5. Has a working turntable, and a really interesting history! Wish I could have spent more time exploring!

On my way back from Redding, California I stopped off in Dunsmuir, CA. Just off the interstate is the Railroad Park Resort. You can sleep in almost 2 dozen cabooses! They are right in the shadow of the Castle Crags. All the old train equipment was really amazing to see!

Last November I went to visit my best friend in Redding, CA. Beautiful city. Was sad to see all the fire damage.

Rode on the fall excursion train ride on the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad! The engine was an EMD567 1700 hp diesel built in 1951.

Celebrated Mardi Gras at the WoW music hall in Eugene with former JGB member Melvin Seals! Ken Babbs of “Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters” psychedelic experience, (on the bus or off the bus) was there with a unique on stage reading and extra fun for the crowd!

Keeping it in the family
I did these for my nephews a few months ago. They were fun to work on. I would like to do more in this style.
Sometimes it’s hard to see progress
So about 2 years ago I painted a eggplant. Thought it was great, tried to do some tomatoes and got overwhelmed with not being able to predict their outcome so I stopped. A year later I tried an eggplant again. Little things stand out as better. I can see my progress. I entered it into a competition and recieved an honorable mention. Big deal for me cause it felt like it validated my progress. All about pushing past fear to just keep at it, fail or not.... just keep going.
It's good practice to sketch masters work. It helps your hands remember line work. No matter how they turn out it's always a step in the right direction
