I’ve gotten paint in my hair before. The last time I tried to paint my living room, it ended up as a disaster. Got as much on me as on my walls.

Hmmm. Blue sounds good.

“I can see how that could happen. I’ve never painted a house before though. What color did you paint it? Do you want help getting the blue on you?”

That must be nice. It would make it easier to get ready in the morning anyway. What color do you want to start with?

“I didn’t mean -- listen, paint seems weirder to me. At least food happens by accident and bugs just sort of happen in life.”

“Green, I think. What about you?”

“Well, when you put it that way...” he chuckled. “It’s just not something I see as being a good move, but I guess it might be the only way around here.”

“No, no, I meant this week. Now that you’ve got a better idea about everyone in the house.”

“Oh. No, not really. Steph still, but uh, yeah I think I need to talk to more people. But it’s kind of weird to feel like you need to insert yourself, isn’t it? I don’t want to get in the middle of anyone or anything.”

“I’m not arrogant enough to think I know the system.”

“And if I was going by what I think the match making criteria is behind the curtain, my first choice would have been someone already taken.” Presley nodded, but she wasn’t done yet. ”Who would you have picked?”

Adam groaned, trying to think. “I don’t know. Based just on that first look before those first dates? Maybe, I don’t know. Steph maybe? Or Virginia. I’m not really sure.”

It’s alright, it washes out. If I get some in my hair, I get some in my hair. It’s not the weirdest thing I’ve had in my hair anyway. Are you picky about your hair? Should I promise the same?

“Do I want to know what’s been in your hair that classifies as weirder?”

“And no. Worst comes to worst, I’ll buzz it and it’ll be back to this length in a few weeks.”

“He’s good to talk to. I could do it all day. On paper— I don’t think we’re worth a trip to the truth booth, after seeing how this thing works. But— I don’t know. Perfect matches and connections are two different things.” Presley paused, studying Adam again. “Were you hoping for someone in particular to pick you?”

Adam tilted his head to the side curiously at this. “If you don’t think you’re truth booth worthy, why pick him?” he wondered before shrugging. “Not really. I do like Leah, but uh, I guess I’m still not sure how this whole thing works. Sort of used to things happening when they happen.”
