I chose these quotations to display because of what they mean to me or that they just resonated with me. I think it’s good to always have at least one quotation that motivates you or moves you in some way, otherwise I think life would be pretty boring. I thought about doing song lyrics, but most songs I listen to don’t have good one-liners, and if they do, they aren’t really that uplifting.

I chose places that I thought would either be noticed because they are out of place, or in places that people use everyday. I also just liked the way that the grass matched the green quote with the dandelion.

Reading 5 Response

Outside artwork has the intention of getting people’s attention. It’s meant to make people stop and think about what they are looking at, and Holzer is just as much as an artist as a traditional one for that. I also think it’s interesting that moving from a city to a farm makes you think of different materials to use for artwork. I guess that makes sense, and I should’ve thought of that, but I didn’t. It was interesting to read from her evolution.

I also have noticed the shift between artists and comedians. I think that because of the Internet being so mainstream now, it’s hard for the artists to overshadow the people on multiple platforms trying to push for or against the wars.

This project was a bit hard for me because, to be honest, I don’t really do anything exciting besides go to class, go to work, and play video games. I thought that making a minute video about video games wouldn’t be encompassing enough because there would be a lot going on. So, I decided to make a makeup process video instead.

The reason I finally settled on this idea was because while I’m not amazing at doing makeup, nor do I really do my full face often, this is what most women do on a daily basis. I think that showing me messing up during the process, and just showing the process in general, is very humanizing. I personally don’t realize that it takes me this long to even attempt at a full face (the original video was 20 minutes!), and I also think that makeup is just a form of art you put on your face.

I apologize for the quality, this was taken on a phone and I didn’t know what else to record with. I hope I got my point across even though it was probably subpar video work.

Reading Response #4

According to the reading, performance has emerged throughout the twentieth-century to break the previously held stereotypical beliefs that it is a serious display of art. Performance has branched out and created different genres, from more serious and classical to more casual and modern. When I think of performance, I generally think of two sides of a coin, one side being ballet, and the other being dance team style dancing with hip-hop or other more fluid dance routines. Performance emerged from political events that didn’t allow artists to create pieces of art from traditional mediums, like painting or sculpture. By World War II, performance became its own expression of art and then spread rapidly. However, today performance is as varied as its history. This is probably because of various culture influences that go into performance art throughout the world, and seeing performance from different cultures will provide a new insight for the viewer.

Project #3

I went pretty literal with this project after re-reading Sean Cubitt’s piece. There were many routes I could’ve done, because really life has many elements of vanishing and becoming everywhere, but I decided to go with nature because it is often overlooked. Vanishing and Becoming happens all the time in nature, whether its low/tide in a lake or the ocean, clouds coming and going in the sky, or snow falling and then melting. The natural day and night cycles also is the most basic form of vanishing and becoming in terms of light.

Video: Overwatch Short “The Last Bastion”

I chose these two together because this video is actually really emotional without any type of music to add to it. I play this game a lot, and the company comes out with backstory videos that add dimension to the characters. This one in particular came to mind when I thought of this song because of the scene where the robot is going through the field. For whatever reason, it gave me a Howl’s Moving Castle vibe.

I was pretty pleased on how well the music ended up matching the scene changes. I technically took the last minute and a half or so of the song, and I really like that while the end of the video is fading up into the distance, the music is fading out.

Chapter 6 Response

I have actually been to the Getty, and reading about the landscaper’s installments being an art piece, I definitely understand what he was going for in the idea that it is supposed to represent dynamism.

When I hear the words Time and Motion together, I immediately think of film. Film is a kind of art, with moving pictures and multiple frames. You not only have to think of how to portray thoughts and feelings through people’s emotions on screen, but also how to make a memorable film that will last.

However I think that the pictures or paintings that demonstrate motion are the most impressive. It is hard to get a picture to be manipulated like that unless you have a really good camera. It is also hard to make a painting like that because making something stationary display motion is always tricky.

Vanishing and Becoming Reading Response

I think the analysis of the different becomings of painting and art as a whole was very interesting to read from different perspectives, regions, and religions. When I first started reading, I thought that these theories might apply to Plato’s Allegory of the Cave. When I read further, I was pleasantly surprised to see they actually included this as an example.

However, at the end of the day, I think this article is just talking about humanity as a whole. There are many main ideas that various tribes and civilizations have come up with without talking to one another because it is part of humanity. In my opinion, the arts definitely falls into this category.

It was a very intriguing read, even if I didn’t understand it completely.

The Loop Project (#2)-

I decided to do these GIFs on various weather types (and one fire) because I didn’t want to do any movie GIFs because I thought a lot of other people would do that subject (and I also couldn’t think of a good movie to get GIFs from). I also really value dynamic weather because I’m originally from California, so something other than sunshine is just really awesome to me.

I also included one of fire because it can be really beautiful to look at, but super destructive if not contained. I honestly think that might be really metaphoric about certain things in life, but that’s not the point of this assignment to get into that.

I also thought these GIFs would just be really nice and calming to have on my computer. Most of these GIFs are from calming sounds videos.

I decided to make this into a GIF because it’s an incredibly powerful moment in one of my favorite video games. The imagery is also very pleasing with the power ripples.
