Maybe They'll Leave You Alone, But Not Me || Katty & Drew [Past Para]
Katty froze the minute she saw the red head in her view. She could see Matt at the table, talking and likely waiting for her to show up, but thankfully he hadn’t seen her yet. Drew’s words were intimidating — to a point. There were many tactics this girl could use to bully people around her and the last thing Katty wanted was to give the girl a way in, a way to find what annoyed her most. Katty loved biology, but her grades in chemistry failed to move her into the biochemical fast track to get an internship. Instead, her career interests had been shifted to interrogation and gang infiltration. Rather than let Drew get under her skin, Katty treated it like a game.
A smile spread across her face, tight, but there. “Sure, let’s go over there. I was going to sit by myself anyway, so having a friend sounds great.” The words were strained and an edge of sarcasm had started to creep in partway through her reply. She shrugged off the mediocre acting attempt, she made her way over to the table Drew had pointed out. Katty sat down and put her tray in front of herself. “You wanna plan a sleepover? Since I know you were wondering, I prefer painting nails to braiding hair.” She grinned before putting a forkful of lettuce in her mouth.
Painting nails? Drew wanted to dig her nails into the girl's eyes and gouge them out, she could almost see the optic nerves dangling from her fist. "What I want is for you to know your place." she bit, sitting across from the girl and crossing her legs. She felt like a parent scolding her child after they had embarrassed her in front of company. "Chemistry, cross-examination, and criminal psychology are A tracks. You do not belong in these classes, but for some reason the powers that be have decided you do. In order for you to survive until final exams, I suggest you accept your status as an underclassmen and treat your newfound peers with the utmost respect or you may not live to see midterms." She placed heavy emphasis on the word live, knowing that "accidents" often happened to new students who upset the balance of classroom politics. "That being said, I've come to offer you an olive branch." Drew peered down her nose at Katty, eyeing her as if she were nothing more than a smear of fecal matter on the bottom of someone's shoe. "Believe me when I say it's better to have me as a friend and not an enemy."
