Small things done regularly can have a BIG impact.
You see a boring everyday task. I see a potential dopamine scavenger hunt.
This made me laugh, and that's always a good source of dopamine.
Often the fastest way to get something done is to go really, REALLY slow.
A great fidget helps us concentrate without distracting everyone else.
Transition isn't just a thing we struggle with between tasks. It can be difficult ANY time we have to go from one thing to another.
Because we get distracted SO easily, we're allowed to set alerts for basic life stuff.
In the moment it's hard to remember that less really can be more.
The trick is to create dopamine in the moment so we CAN take action in a way that WON'T sabotage our future self.
ADHD brains are high-performance machines capable of extraordinary things, but successful operation requires specialized skills and training.
When our brains are going too fast it can be really, really hard to slow down and pause.
Impulsive actions often result in disappointment and regret.. again.
Think imperfect thoughts.
Take imperfect action.
Make imperfect progress.
Acquiring new skills is always a process of "study, practice, integrate and rinse & repeat" no matter how simple it appears to be.
Learning from our mistakes is healthy, but giving too much energy to our negative stories derails us and kills our progress.
We don't get bonus points for doing things the hard way.
I have to remind myself that a few things done are better than a lot that's not.
