So, question--I see some of y'all having knit big projects like sweaters, and I can only dream of such a thing! The biggest thing I ever knit was a (crappy 😂) vest that I knew I'd have to sit down and force myself to knit for 5 hours straight, or else I'd get bored and never return to it. How do you find the motivation to finish stuff like whole sweaters and blankets? Are there some really good not-boring patterns you're using? X3 Any reccomendations? Thanks! :D
First of all, wow! Thanks for the message! I’ve been neglectful with the knitting club in the last year.
As for motivation, I break mine into small pieces. For a sweater, it’s easier. One arm is a goal and then another arm, etc. But to be honest, I have two sweaters on the go and am reticent to return to them. It’s really hard.
Blankets you can do by squares or stripes and then sew them all together. Again, I think it’s about having small goals.
Also, it’s important to remember while you are knitting that the act of knitting is fun. So yea, making sweaters and blankets and such is awesome but sometimes knitting small things are good too.
And knit for other people! That always motivates me, especially if I have a deadline I’m coming up against.
Check out Ravelry for patterns. Look for stuff that is a challenge but not too much of one. You don’t want to get frustrated and walk away but you don’t want to be bored either. I try to learn one thing new with each thing that I knit so I don’t get bored.
Hope that helps!
