The future is good. Focus is the key. I’ve seen the depths of depressions. I’ve been on the brink of suicide. I’ve taken big risks, and lost big. I’ve read the news, and they’re not good. I’ve found myself victim of the wicked world syndrome perpetrated by the media. It’s the 7 deadly sins, every day, in your face. If it bleeds it leads. It’s much easier to sell fear than hope. It’s easier to follow some dimwitted buffoon with a camera crew, than it is to produce quality tv. Etc. etc. Despite all of the above and many more atrocities of modern civilization, how can I find myself in high spirit, believing the future is bright? Focus is the key. You can use it to open the gates of hell unleashing unlimited suffering unto yourself, and consequently to those around you.
You can fill your mind with fear and hate. Thanks to technological progression you now have the world at your finger tips. This means death and destruction - world wide, pollution, racism, discrimination, finacial crisis and porn so depraved and diabolical, it would make the notoriously wicked roman emperor Caligua feel like a kid in a candy store. On the other hand, focus can also be used to open the ever present treasure of pure golden bliss within yourself. Focus is the key. A new industrial revolution lurking around the corner. 3D Printing is bringing us even closer to the next step in human evolution. The age of abundance. Abundance and transparency is the way of the future. By now most of us are aware of the flaws of corporate structure, the military–industrial complex, global warmning etc. Those facts should scare the living hell out of any rational human being, rightfully so. The thing is though, it will change for the better. Slowly but surely. Some of the smartest people in the world are working day and night to improve the future for all of humanity. Don’t forget that. (Change your starting page to www.bigthink.com now, instead of whatever procastobator steals your time and mind now. Focus is the key.) The only thing permanent in history is change, and if we zoom out to look at the big picture, we’ll see that today, the chances of a man dying by the hands of another man, is lower than ever before. That’s progress. We all want to survive, and since we got to the moon and took that picture of the earth, people have slowly begun to realize we’re in this together.
Egotism is not good for evolution, it never has been, never will be - it always get weeded out eventually. That means corporations who’s biggest driving force right now is optimizing their bottom line, will have to adapt to more humane values. Goverments will have to stop their Machavellian aggression, and rather win people over by focusing on building rich culture. And we all need to be concious about our carbon footprints. Alturism is the true human spirit, and also the only way to achieve true happiness.
Think about it - When you eat a delicious cake, as soon as you’ve devoured it, the pleasure is gone, sometimes even replaced by a feeling of disgust.
But when you spend those same money it would have cost you to help out someone in need, or just give a random spontanious gift to someone you care about, you get that golden feeling of true happiness. Humanity is good, and so is the future. Sceptics and cynics might bring up a ton of examples about how technological progression will be the end of us, and to adress this I will say that you have to remember, techology is a tool, made by humans, for humans. Same way we developed language to communicate better, and in the same way you can use language to talk trash, you can also use it for poetry. Technology can be used for good and bad, just like everything else.
All we can control in the end, is our own actions, and try our best to do our best, personally. Trash talk on the internet never made a positive difference. If you see a problem, you should try to find a solution. But remember you can only focus on one thing at a time.
Focus is the key.
