Big anxiety/depression mood as well
for anyone that needs medical help today
PLEASE DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS. PLEASE DO NOT LIE TO YOUR MEDICAL PROVIDERS
I have never heard of insurance denying coverage due to protest involvement. Please fact check before you believe in this.
I work in the ED, and trust me when I say we do not give two shits why you were where you were. We care about DISEASE PREVENTION. The current fight is important as it always has been, but don’t forget that COVID IS ACTIVELY KILLING PEOPLE DAILY, especially in black communities, AND THERE IS NO CURE OR VACCINE.
We as medical providers support you and your voice. We see racism everyday through the healthcare inequalities that have rampaged poorer minority communities. We encourage you to continue fighting for justice. I personally pledge to treat each and every one of you brave souls when you’ve been gassed, beaten, and abused by police. BUT PLEASE, extend us the courtesy of the truth. Just like BLM, the current COVID crisis extends beyond yourself.
Help us in our fight, just as we will help you in yours.
This, but also, trust me. Your insurance company won’t find out. Like, have you seen our healthcare system? We do not have it together enough to figure out if there’s some kind of “respiratory distress due to COVID s/p doing their patriotic duty by protesting” diagnosis code. I just had a provider order a COVID test with the diagnosis of “cataracts” selected. Coders are way too exhausted and run down from night drinking to narc on you
Also look, friend, I am here to make sure you stay breathing. I keep a folder of chart notes that are “adjunctive” to actual charts. It’s just a word document that I have coded with things people didn’t want in their charts but I thought id like to know the next time I saw them.
I am just doing healthcare. Honestly I’m going to be nicer if you got covid at a protest than if you took an unnecessary vacation to somewhere crowded for selfish reasons, but it is my job to take care of you regardless
All of this. Every state is handling Covid differently, but continue to self quarantine if you have symptoms and avoid socializing unnecessarily. Your healthcare provider will likely recommend that the people you were around will need testing too. That’s it - we are not law enforcement and it is not our duty to enforce things. Doctor-patient confidentiality still exists, HIPAA protects you. And if healthcare providers illegally share your information, you can report them.
Also: if a doctor refuses to treat you because you went to a protest, please report them to their state medical board. That is NOT okay.
THANK YOU!
Opinion Piece.
Forget the hat. The cute white hat. With the cute stripe. Why? Because.
I’m not going back. I’m not going back to tights, and all whites, and heels, and hook ups in the supply closet. I’m not going back to cute and sweet and meek. I’m not going back to “Nurses are better seen & not heard.” I’m not going back.
Speak up. Speak up again. Demand your voice be heard. Persist to find the truth and resist the status quo. Find your passion. Lose it and find it again. Ask for a seat at the table. They will say no. Ask again. Ask again. Ask again. Break them down, not by pressure but by innovation. Know your history and realize the vision for the future. Be smart. Be smarter. Be the smartest person in the room. Never stop learning. And for the love of all the gods, do not wear that stupid fucking hat.
Florence may have lit the lamp, but to keep it burning for 200 years requires the type of stubbornness that only a modern day nurse could possess. Thank you to every badass nurse who came before me and for those who will change the future. I love every single one of you, even the ones I don’t. Happy nurses week.
Doctors and nurses in New York are Killing Themselves...
““I didn’t become a nurse to get a front row seat to other people’s tragedies. I did it because I knew the world was bleeding and so was I, and somewhere inside I knew the only way to stop my own bleeding was to learn how to stop someone else’s.””
— Nurse proverb
When multiple docs are using me like a walkie - talkie between them...
Anti anxiety.
As someone with crippling anxiety, this shit WORKS.

This can be a tough pill to swallow because love is such a powerful thing. But you deserve someone who treats you right.
@stormcallerspath showed me this. I think this is really important for people to see, so I am sharing it.
We all have bad days… sometimes the only thing you can do is get through the day and try again tomorrow.
