ADZU HS 98 #ZAMBOCRISIS RELIEF OPERATIONS

On the morning of the 9th of September 2013, Zamboanga City was attacked, and tens of thousands of its citizens have been displaced since. Our High School Class of 1998 from the Ateneo de Zamboanga have combined efforts to source all forms of help and start our own relief operations. This has spread to friends of friends and we are continuously working to provide food and support to the people of Zamboanga City.

09 October 2013. Relief ops resume as the City is hit by inclement weather. Food packs and hygiene kits have been distributed to evacuees in Tetuan, sacks of rice and cups for arroz caldo to the Guiwan Parish Church.

30 September 2013. Day 22. Zamboanga starts the week hopeful as we slowly fill up the city streets, open shop, and pick up where we left off. The Philippine flag still stands in the center of the city, at half-mast in honor of our fallen heroes.

Day 21. Not entirely peace and quiet just yet.

But it's the day we try to rest and recharge. We've only just started cleaning up.

28 September 2013. Day 20.

Hoping it's all over, but it isn't, despite 'official' declarations. Intermittent gunfire can still be heard and sporadic fire seen. We're glad we can get to our troops and lend them support, and that we can keep doing what we do.

somehow, while maintaining vigilance. Waiting for word regarding the status of barangays, as well as monetary donations to arrive before buying more supplies in bulk. Yet another evacuation center has been set up. Thinking of bringing rice and meds.

Day 15. No relief ops today.

Those of us who are in ZC have either evacuated or are in the process of doing so, or are staying home, indoors, and preparing for the worst. Keep them, The City and all its people in your thoughts and prayers. It feels like right now, there's nothing else that would help.

Day 14. A Somewhat Rest Day

It's Sunday, after all.

We’ve been waking up to disturbing news these past days, but this week might bring in more optimistic developments. Crossing fingers.

End of Day 13. Business As Usual

It's the weekend, but it doesn't feel like it as everyone still works like cogs. Long-awaited pledged goods have finally arrived or are on their merry way, and there was a new addition to our soup kitchen menu; other than that, no big changes to report. Reconnecting with long-unseen friends and catching up help us feel renewed. We keep on turning and spur each other to do so.

As of 19 September 2013, a total of 23,794 families / 118,819 persons from fourteen (14) barangays in Zamboanga City and one (1) barangay in Zamboanga Sibugay have been affected by the encounter. Of which, 22,433 families/113,389 individuals were displaced:

Outside Evauation Centers: 1,790 famlies/ 2,227 individuals

Inside 57 Evacuation Centers: 20,643 families/111,162 persons
