angst thought for the day: do you think when Rex dies, he'll ask to be buried back on the moon where the venator crashed, so he can be with his brothers one last time?
Kissing the Bad Batch to escape from the Empire (with Rex and Cody!)
(I know the title is kinda confusing but just go with it for a second)
1.9k words ! suggestive (mainly with Crosshair) !
Looking back, when Cid said this was an âeasy jobâ, you should have known better than to believe her. Apparently the simple supply pick-up was in a crowded city where everyone would be too busy with their own problems to even notice the Batch. In fact, the job was supposedly so easy, that there was no need to send the whole squad, just you and him.
What Cid failed to mention was that this particular planet had recently been seized by the Empire, with patrols of TK Troopers constantly on the streets, armed to the teeth and waiting for the likes of you. Thankfully, youâre able to pick up the supplies but just when you think youâre safe, a patrol of troopers comes into view. You need to think fast, knowing if they see you or his very recognisable face then youâre both screwed.
âTrust me?â you ask in a hushed whisper.
He nods his head and before he can question why, you pull him in for a kissâŠ
HUNTER
Itâs like it happens in slow motion for Hunter and yet heâs still surprised when your lips touch his. He sees you getting closer than usual, your feet rising to your toes as you lean up.Â
At first, he doesnât quite believe this is happening. He knows why youâre doing this, that this will perfectly cover both of your faces but thereâs a small part of Hunter that wonders or well, hopes that maybe thereâs another reason.
The instincts heâs been trying to ignore for months finally come to the surface and Hunter leans into the kiss, a small groan coming from his throat as he does.
Afterwards, he stays close to you, his breath ghosting your neck. Hunter doesnât want to move away from you just yet, wanting to linger in your scent for a little bit longer.Â
Staying close to you helps ground him too. Since this is a pretty crowded city, youâre like a safe space for Hunter, making him feel secure as he listens out for the heavy boots of the TK Troopers or the crackling of any nearby comms going off.
Hunter doesnât want to let this moment go but he doesnât want to make this a big deal or turn it into something itâs not.
Despite any clear indications you give him, Hunter is still doubtful and so youâll have to bring it up if you want to be anything more than friends.
TECH
It takes Tech a few seconds to analyse the situation but heâs quick to conclude that this is, in fact, a considerably effective method of escaping the TK Troopers.
Resting his hands on your hips, Tech manoeuvres you so youâre completely hidden, his back being the only part visible to anyone walking by.
He doesnât necessarily relax into the kiss, too busy trying to listen out for any passing soldiers while thinking of another possible escape route if you were to potentially be caught.Â
But Techâs a great multitasker, making sure to make the kiss a worthy one while listening out for the enemies and trying to figure out a plan B, C and D. As much as he wants to get lost in this kiss, he knows this isnât the time nor place.
Tech takes this in his stride, not letting the kiss distract him completely. Once you eventually break the kiss, Tech cautiously looks out to make sure the coast is clear. After all, thereâs still a mission to be completed and until youâre both back at the ship, danger could be around any corner.Â
âThat was an excellent idea,â Tech praises, giving you an approving nod âthe generalised uncomfortableness of interrupting a kiss is something many nat-born, TK Troopers will feel, often preferring to ignore the couple than interrupt them⊠yet another reason why theyâre inferior to the clone army but thatâs a conversation for another dayâ.
He doesnât want to dwell on the kiss, preferring to immediately friendzone himself for you in the hopes of avoiding any miscommunications or awkwardness.Â
WRECKER
Wrecker isnât really shocked, heâs more confused. With your lips on his, you can basically hear him hum a muffled âhuh?!â against you.
Although he has no idea what to do while youâre kissing him, Wrecker is quick to melt into the kiss, pushing his confusion to the side and wanting to simply enjoy the moment.Â
Honestly, heâs just happy to be here so he lets you take the lead. Wrecker keeps his hands down by his side, letting you make any other moves as well as letting you decide when to break off the kiss.
Wrecker doesnât want to be the one to pull away, wanting to savour your lips on his while he can. Hell, if you keep kissing him for the next half hour, Wrecker has no problem staying here and doing exactly that.Â
âWhat was that for?â he asks when the kiss is finally over, a wide grin on his face.Â
Expect everyone to know about this when you get back to the ship. Even if Wrecker tries to keep this to himself, he canât, needing some advice from his brothers on what to do nextÂ
(and thereâs a part of him that wants to brag about kissing you).
ECHO
A million thoughts race through Echoâs mind. Are you doing this to evade the troopersâŠor is there a part of you thatâs been waiting for a moment like this? While his body freezes for a few seconds, his lips thankfully begin to kiss you back.
Heâs very respectful, not trying to deepen the kiss or make any potentially risky moves. The last thing Echo wants to do is overstep a boundary.
Suddenly Echo finds himself paranoid about things that have never crossed his mind prior to this. Are his lips chapped? What does he do with his hand? Would it be weird to hold your waist? He doesnât get to the answers of those questions, as the kiss comes to an end all too soon.
When you pull away from him and check to see if the troopers have moved on, it takes Echo a few seconds to kick back into gear, his brain foggy with desire.Â
When you both begin the walk back to the ship, Echo keeps you in the corner of his eye, wanting to say so much to you but with no idea how.
He knows this is a golden opportunity to confess his feelings for you but every time he opens his mouth to say something, the words get stuck in his throat.
In the end, he decides to swallow his feelings, not wanting to ruin your friendship by confessing his desire to be more.
Even rotations after the kiss, Echo canât stop thinking about the sensation of your lips on his. His mind keeps trailing back to that moment, yearning to relive it⊠but do you want the same thing?
(I know it doesnât really work story wise but I just had to include Crosshair, Rex and Cody in these too lol!)
CROSSHAIR
When you kiss him, the first thing that pops into Crosshairâs head is that he needs to one up you. If you think you can surprise him with a kiss, then heâll take it further, leaning into you until you begin to walk backwards.Â
When a wall presses against your back, Crosshair uses his arms to cage you in and further obscure your face from anyone passing.
He doesnât shy away from the kiss, his tongue teasingly running along your lower lip... but thatâs all he does; tease.Â
Crosshair likes to tease you, to see if youâll rise to the bait and take it one step further. Itâs like a game you two play and he canât get enough of it.Â
He pulls away first, making you crave for more. Checking to see if the coast is clear, he gives you a firm nod before continuing back to the ship.
Afterwards, Crosshair keeps his cards close to his chest. He doesnât really acknowledge the kiss, not making a typical sarcastic remark about it but not saying anything pleasant either.Â
In all honesty, Crosshair doesnât know how to feel. He hasnât felt this way about someone before and itâs weirdly intimidating for him. Crosshair isnât sure what this feeling is but if you donât mention the kiss, heâll go back to his usual teasing self in no time.
REX
Rex forgets how to breathe. While you close your eyes, Rexâs eyes go wide open, utterly stunned by your actions. His whole body tenses as he starts to process what youâre doing.
Rex has faced many distractions on the battlefield, kriff, heâs even had siths play mind tricks on him and yet this kiss is by far the most effective distraction.
The only thing he can think about is you and how badly heâs wanted this for so long. His hand twitches, wanting to cup your face but he stops himself, not wanting to overstep.
Instead, he compromises with his doubts and simply takes your hand in his.
Rex could never entertain the idea of you and him being anything more than friends during his service to the Republic but whatâs stopping you two now? Heâs not sure what to do, too many emotions swiftly coming to the forefront.Â
Rex has to pull his gaze away from your lips afterwards, completely overthinking each move he makes and being extremely cautious not to make this weird.
He might seem distant when you get back to the ship but itâs not because he didnât like the kiss. Itâs the opposite actually and now he needs to figure out how to approach you about the possibility of you two ever becoming more than friends.
CODY
This isnât what Cody expected when you asked him to trust you but he admires your bold move. Usually, he isnât too eager to show affection in public but since youâre already kissing him, he decides to throw caution to the wind and fully embrace the moment.
Heâs quick to follow suit, deepening the kiss as he pulls you flush against him. He knows why youâre doing this but there seems to be a lot of passion in a kiss thatâs apparently just supposed to be a quick escape plan.
This can very quickly turn into a mini make-out session, both of you getting caught up in each other. This attraction between you and the Commander has been building for quite a while now and neither of you feel like backing down, the kiss overcoming you both.
Out of everyone, Cody is the quickest to realise you didnât do this purely to evade the troopers and that thereâs more to this. While Cody can be modest and he definitely thinks you can do better than him, he canât ignore the signs that you may like him more than youâre letting on.
Immediately afterwards, he might seem a little cold but heâs not doing that on purpose. After all, youâre still in immense danger and need to get back to the ship ASAP so until then, Cody is still in âCommanderâ mode.
When youâre both safe and onboard the ship, Cody brings up the kiss. He knows that if he doesn't talk this out with you now that heâll just put it off out of fear of making things awkward.Â
Cody is determined to find out if the kiss meant something to you and if you feel the same way about him as he does you.
NOT ONLY WAS CODY THINKING ABOUT THE GOVERNOR WHEN TALKING ABOUT HOW THEY HAVE TO LIVE WITH THEIR DECISIONS AND CHOICES BUT WAS ALSO THINKING ABOUT HOW HE HAS TO LIVE WITH SHOOTING DOWN OBI-WAN-
Discord has been rising on Coruscant, anti-war protesters seemed to be more active than ever before, and separatist sympathisers were speaking up more. All of it just gave Fox a headache.
It wasnât just Coruscant either, the longer this war went on the more the people of the Republic across the galaxy began to protest. It was common now for Senatorâs to be targeted, Fox prided himself that since his instatement as head of the Guard none of the attempts have proven successful.
The biggest of his worries aside from the Chancellor was the Senator from Naboo. Heâd read up on her full file, as she seemed to have a constant target on her back from both the Separatists and those within the Republic that didnât agree with her very outspoken opinions. He wasnât supposed to have opinions on the Senators, it could affect his job. But he couldnât help but admire and respect her, she was one of the few that was willing to speak on behalf of the Clones within the Senate.
However, Senator Amidala happened to be the main source of his headache today. His guard had managed to prevent yet another assassination attempt on the Senatorâs life. But it had left him with a mountain of paperwork to fill in.
The Senator had been about to bring forth a new bill that would limit funding to the new clone programme depending on the state of negotiations. The bill stated no new funding could be assigned to the development of more clone units until negotiations reopened with the Separatist senate, and the funds currently set aside for new units should be put into the fund for Clone Rights.
The assassin had decided to target one of the evening events, despite Foxâs protests the event had taken place in an off-site location. His guards had done their best to secure the perimeter, but somehow the assassin had managed to slip an explosive device through their defences, and managed to detonate it.
Fox stretched behind his desk, his muscles still felt tight and achey despite the liberal amount of Bacta heâd put on them after the incident.
The blast had thrown him and the Senator across the room and straight into a wall. Luckily, heâd managed to take the brunt of the blast â his armour still smelt of dust and smoke â and the senator had managed to escape with only a few cuts and bruises. One on her forehead had looked particularly bad, but he hadnât had a chance to examine it before Amidalaâs handmaidens had appeared and helped her out of the building. He had to praise their efficiency, like his elite guard, they were highly trained and deadly.
They had managed to catch the assassin though, which made the Commanderâs bruises hurt ever so slightly less.
He slumped down into his chair, putting the datapad down so he could pull of his bucket. The attack, arrest and accompanying injuries had left a lot of reports to write. Not to mention approve from his fellow guards, before submitting the full file to the Chancellor. And due to the close nature of the Chancellor and Senator heâd requested the file to be delivered before the end of the day. A groan left his lips as he dragged his hands down his face. He couldnât remember the last time he even laid down properly. The door chime went off. He took in a deep breath and pulled himself upright before answering. âCome in.â
Thorn stood at the door with a woman wearing a beautifully embraided cloak. Even though he could only see her lower face, the distinct make up adorning her lips, he instantly recognised her as one of Amidalaâs handmaidens. His brother cleared his throat. âCommander Fox, maâam.â Thorn gestured into Foxâs office.
Fox was out of his seat, his back straight, and walking around the side of his desk. âThank you Thorn. Maâam, please have a seat.â He gestured to the chair in front of his desk. Honestly it was strange for anyone other than his fellow troopers to visit him in his office. So, he felt slight uncomfortable at this visit.
The handmaid dipped her head towards Thorn and entered the small office. He still couldnât see her face, but she carried herself with a quiet dignity that Fox couldnât help but notice. Heâd worked alongside a few of Amidalaâs handmaidens on a few occasions, but they were always so focused on their tasks he hadnât actually spoken to them, let alone learnt their names. The handmaid took her seat with a certain stiffness that Fox attributed to nervousness at being here. She swept the length of her cloak under her as she tucked a foot behind the other. Fox twitched, before making his way back to his own chair. âWhat can I do for you mâlady?â
âThereâs no need for such formality, Commander.â Her voice was sweet, as she pulled her cloak back enough for him to see her face. Fox felt like his brain ceased to function, he knew he shouldnât be surprised to see that she was beautiful after all he knew that on occasion the Senatorâs handmaids had doubled for her. âI am simply here to thank you for protecting the Senator and apprehending the assassin.â
Fox cleared his throat. âThâŠThank you mâlad-â He stuttered and stopped as she narrowed her eyes slightly at him. âYou can call me Fox, how would you prefer me to address you?â
She introduced herself, her name sounding like a melody. âItâs nice to officially meet youâŠFox.â She smiled as she said his name, and he couldnât help but return it.
âYou really didnât need to come all this way to thank us. Itâs part of our duty.â
âEven so, our duty often comes with little appreciation.â She took in a deep breath. âItâs only small, but I hope this conveys some of my appreciation.â Fox couldnât help but tense as she reached under her cloak. She didnât miss it either, letting out a small laugh. âI promise itâs nothing dangerous⊠this time.â She gave him a deadly smirk. He could finally see what it was as she placed it on the desk and pushed it towards him.
It was a small ornate box, Fox reached out hesitantly to take it. âIâm afraid itâs only a small token.â He gently opened it to see a small charm hanging on a black cord. âIn Naboo, itâs common to show appreciation through art.â
Thatâs when he noticed the intricate detailing covering the charm. âYou did this?â His throat suddenly felt tighter. âWeâre not-â
âI know itâs probably against regulations.â She said quickly. âBut thatâs why I made it small. Itâs the least I can do.â
Fox stared at the details, he noticed there was even a small flowing fox carved into it. âI donât... The Senator must mean a lot to you.â
âEverything. But it is also so much more than that.â She pulled back her cloak, the movement tearing Foxâs gaze from the charm back to her face. Thatâs when he noticed, the wound and bruising on her forehead.
He murmured her name softly. âIt was you.â He almost slapped himself. The entire Guard prided themselves on being observant, to be able to catch the smallest insignificant detail. Thatâs why theyâd been selected for this assignment. And to miss something as big as a double.
She let out a small giggle, covering her mouth with her hand. âDonât feel bad. I wouldnât be doing my job if youâd noticed.â A small beep on her wrist made her smile disappear. âIâm afraid duty calls.â
Fox stood as she did, this time he realised the stiffness he noticed earlier must be from the bruises both of them had suffered. âIâm sorry about that.â
She tilted her head curiously. âAbout what?â
He rubbed the back of his neck subconsciously. âThe pain. Iâm sure you would have been better off if I hadnât crashed into you as well.â
Giving him a hesitant look, she took a few steps around the desk towards him. He found himself matching her. âIf it wasnât for you, then itâs likely I wouldnât be here for you to apologise to.â She spoke softly. âMy duty is to give my life, but Iâm glad you were there so I didnât have to.â There was no malice in her tone. He understood what her duty meant; it wasnât too different from his own. He would most likely give his life for the Republic, and she would give it for her planet. Her former Queen. Her Senator. She was close to him now, he could feel the heat from her body. âYour evening patrol brings you close to Senator Amidalaâs office around 20:00, right?â
He blinked, once again reminded that she was more than just a handmaid. She was a bodyguard, protection for the Senator. Of course, she would know the routines of everyone that spent any time near her Senator. âYes, I should be there then. Why-â
âAnd if Iâm correct that is the final patrol of your day?â
âYes, but-â
âGood, mâlady has requested you join us for a meal. Feel free to bring Commander Thorn along too.â She gave him a sweet smile, before gently brushing something off his pauldron. âI think Teckla has a bit of a crush on him as well.â
âWe really should-â
âPerfect, itâs arranged then. Weâll see you at 20:00.â She interrupted, rising up onto her tiptoes to press her lips against his cheek. âThank you, Fox.â She whispered against his ear, sending a shiver down his spine. She must have noticed as she let out a small laugh before sweeping out of the room before he could speak.
Not two minutes after she left, Thorn came barrelling into the room. âWhat was that about?â
Fox felt his body dropping back landing heavy against his deck. âWeâve been invited to dinner.â His fingers ran over the spot sheâd pressed her lips against his. Theyâd been so soft, briefly he wondered what theyâd feel like against his.
Thornâs voice brought him out of his thoughts âDinnerâŠ? With the Senator?â
Fox crossed his arms over his chest. âAnd her handmaids.â
Thornâs eyes widened and then looked down at himself. âI need to buff my armourâŠâ He was out of sight in no time, causing Fox to let out a laugh.
Now that he was alone, his eyes drifted back to the small gift. Slipping off his gloves, he picked the charm up from the box as delicately as he could and slipped it on. It was long enough to hang below his chest plate and designed to be flat enough to fit snugly without digging into his skin. He wondered if sheâd designed it exactly for that purpose. Of course she had, he thought to himself with a smile.
