SJM is such a selfless author if you think about it. She saw us struggling with the lack of Ruhn content and said “you know what, here’s your goth gamer prince eating pussy on chapter 3.” Such an altruistic queen.
Don’t mind me. Just thinking about how happy Lucien must have been when he saw that smile bloom on Elain’s face when he made a joke in ACOWAR. This is the first time she’s smiled in front of him and it’s because of him. Elain wasn’t talking to Feyre and then smiled, it was because of something that he said.
Imagine how Lucien’s tired body must have been filled with pride and joy as he saw the woman who he thought was the most beautiful one he’d laid eyes on have a smile bloom on her face because of him.
Why Elucien is potentially endgame
SJM tends to stick to her concept of mates to a T. She’s almost never deterred from this in cannon with one exception in TOG.
SJM talks about Elucien, she planned out Elucien for just as long as she’s planned out Nessian. And claims that Lucien and Elain can help each other grow a lot.
Lucien was the first one to suggest that Elain needed to get out of the house during ACOWAR.
Before Lucien leaves, it appears as if Elain wants to talk to him, only to retreat back upstairs when he leaves.
Lucien is the first one to give Elain credit for the Hybern situation. He’s also the one who comes to Elain after the battle.
Elucien fits the pairings SJM tends to write about. Elain has a similar reaction to Lucien as Nesta had to Cassian and Feyre had to Rhys. (Though each pairing do have differences, there are a few similarities)
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t dislike Azriel, but ACOSF did confirm that he wasn’t endgame to me. Mostly because during the scene where they were talking about retrieving the trove, Elain was more than willing to do it and stating how she wanted to get more involved with the Night Court, but when the IC is discussing the trove, Azriel tells Cassian that Elain shouldn’t be exposed to the darkness of the trove. Therefore negating what Elain actually wanted to do. That and his three brothers thing doesn’t help his case either nor does the fact that it seems like he’s putting Elain on the same pedestal that he put Mor on. The only difference is that Elain has conflicting feeling for Azriel, which is understandable to me because Elain’s engagement was broken off in ACOWAR on top of having to deal with the trauma of being forced to be fae. I think she tries to find connection with whoever she can to cope with her trauma. But i guess there will be more insight into her character when her own book comes around.
I feel like Elain and Lucien would challenge each other.
Elucien has the potential for a lot of great storylines. Aka The Spring Court, The Band of Exhiles, The Autumn Court, The Day Court. If anything I think Lucien having connections with multiple courts fits in with Elain’s want to travel and see far off places (something she brings up in the first book) I just feel like they have a lot more potential for a great story/love story,
Bonus (TOG Series Spoilers): A lot of people state they won’t be endgame because we’re already in the sixth book, however Chaol and Yrene didn’t get together until TOD, And SJM built their love story within a book, I think Elucien’s story will go a similar route to chaolrene’s but those are my two cents on the Elucjen aspect of the ship war.
