23!! so this girlie is based off of a northern cardinal, they are native to the bulk of the US! the red plumage in the males are from carotenoid pigments in their diet!! they produce both red and yellow pigments, and when only fed yellow pigments, they become a pale red color!! rare yellow morph cardinals lack the enzyme to convert carotenoids into red pigments, and present yellow!! overall this is called "xanthochromism" :3

🦋 MUD X SILKWING ADOPT 🦋 - 100 WOF HYBRID CHALLENGE

19!!! i looooved experimenting with this color pallet, teal and red turned out to be soooo interesting and i would like to thank the juniper hairstreak butterfly for inspo!! juniper hairstreaks have a variety of morphs and this particular design was inspired by their "olive" morph :3 they, like their name suggests, use junipers as their host plants!! i'll be revisiting these critters because i love junipers and they have a lot of pretty morphs in their clade!!!
