I have another question *flails* I'm curious about when Oros' feelings for Jaya started to develop. I'm rereading the story right now and it's making me inclined to think he started caring about her (not necessarily romantically) earlier than I originally thought. Was there a specific moment you imagined his feelings changed?

The fun thing about Oros is that he has always been less of an asshole than he projects to the world around him. He was a sweet kid growing up, and then Things Changed to make him the lovable jerk we all know today. Assholery and biting sarcasm are his defense mechanisms. Admittedly, he feels has a lot to be defensive about, but you can imagine that this makes him a fucking delight at parties and delicate political negotiations. Taion has actually had the “and this is why I can’t take you anywhere” conversation with Oros multiple times.

That said, Oros himself actually discusses this later, in character! So I can’t tell you because plot.

I can tell you, however, that the exact point where Jaya’s personal feelings begin to change about Mr. Pricklepants is already published, and you can actually see it if you squint and tilt your head to the side.
