Hi! How are you? :D

I just saw the post you reblogged about what kind of instrument Hiccup would play, and I admit I am 100% biased in my thought, but still

This guy wanted to shoot down a Night Fury as his first dragon kill, he wanted to destroy the dragon hunters, he wanted to outsmart Viggo Grimborn - I feel like Hiccup kind of has a "go big or go home" attitude sometimes, even though he's gentle and soft at heart

Plus he loves building, repairing, creating, working with metal and solving problems

Therefore I present to you the organ, the only instrument capable of both shaking a building and sounding lighter than a flute, an instrument you regularly have to enter inside of, surrounded by metal pipes and other small pieces in order to solve its issues or even simply tune it - sometimes a note doesn't work properly and you have to spend the rest of the day just to figure out what's wrong... To tune the pipes of the trumpets you have to hit the metal very lightly for example, I feel like there's similarities with his job as a blacksmith

Not only that!! Each organ is completely unique, they all have a different personality, you have to adapt how you play it and what you play on it to the feel of the keys and pedals under your touch, and given how much personality Toothless has I believe Hiccup would love it - your own organ grows to feel like a part of yourself, and given how much full body/mind coordination it requires it might be similar to flying with Toothless

You have to learn how to play other organs, and sometimes you fail because who built them was an idiot, just like Hiccup has to learn how to approach different dragons and not all of them are friendly

And while most of the times you need someone else there by your side (turning pages, changing stops,...) it's not like an orchestra, where there can be dozens of people around you, which can be overwhelming for someone not used to nor wanting to be at the center of attention (first violinists do get a lot of attention in my experience)

That of course when you have a concert - but most organists are also choir directors, which I think suits him perfectly: he is the leader of a small group of very different people that with time learn to work together efficiently and form a cohese and tight-knit group, just like a choir

So yeah, organist Hiccup for the win xD

Oh wow, this is incredibly cool! I know absolutely nothing about organs (other than that I adore their sound and general aesthetic), so I absolutely love all the new knowledge you dropped! I had no idea they were that complex, and each so unique and that so much personality is put into them.

Given all this amazing new info, I can 100% say I agree with you. The organ is the absolute perfect instrument for Hiccup to play and now I really need a fic involving it lol. Fantastic, fantastic information, and so, so cool!

So do you play the organ, then? :) Is that how you know so much about them?

Squid wanted an outdoorsy hottie, and that’s just what she got!  Cade Douglas (like the tree, yes, he knows) has always enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping and fishing, but he originally went to college with the intention of getting a history degree.  When he took a Forestry course just for fun, he knew almost immediately that he wanted to switch majors. After spending his summers working as a performing lumberjack in Alaska, Cade moved back home to Windenburg post-graduation and began building his own cabin while taking on a job as a Fish and Game Warden.

Shhsjaksj there are so many fangan ocs from diff artists who share the same ultimate talents but all have such wildly different designs,, creativity really b like that......... its so cool how different artists can take the same general concept and really make it their own and individualize it.......
