okay, so, first off, the naming could use work we're awares of that, however thats beside the point i needed to get this thing in motion.
now! what even is this? this is an event meant to run the second weekend of August, this year the dates would be the eighth and and ninth.
hows it work? make fanworks of any format, edits playlists audios fanfics fanarts, and then post 'em and tag this blog on either date, or after the factâ we just wanna see more afamiliality in fandom.
kind of lackluster and rushed but hey thats life we just need to make this real you know how it is. and here's the Ao3 collection for anyone who puts their fannish creations on Ao3.
the tags are "afamilial fanwork blast" and "afamilial fanwork blast 2026," but really a tag to the blog is more effective
dividers made by us, icon from @vo1d-ed1ts, this event format was inspired by the awesome @aplatonics-assemble, and the runner behind this is the same as the one behind @nonacearo-week albeit the headmates have changed
all fandoms are welcome save for works by neil gaiman and jkrowling, otherwise go ham, and yes going ham means original works are allowed too, the more the merrier
we can't stop you from creating dark things or intense things for this event and we really don't care if you do, afamiliality deserves to be shown and explored through a spectrum of topics, that said tag it !!! tag it properly and give warnings !!!
1.3k words, post-canon, Afamilial Sunny Baudelaire, QPR Violet and Klaus Baudelaire
Sunny didn't get it. The statute of limitations in the Land of Districts was ten years. The four Baudelaires had settled in a newly built mansion of their own. The first decade of Sunnyâs life was pandemonium, but now, as she settled into her teenage years, it felt closer to Elysium. Things were finally going right.
Violet and Klaus didn't seem to notice.
Sunny understood why they clung to each other all throughout her childhood. They had no one else they could turn to. Of course Violet and Klaus ended up closer than any normal siblings. They didn't have a choice.
As far as family went, Monty was Withnailâs favorite. He was the easiest to get things from. If Monty ventured into London to see a play, he was sure to stop by and offer Withnail his second ticket. âMy dear boy,â he always said, âno one understands the theater quite like you.â Withnail didnât enjoy trekking out to Montyâs estate, but his uncle was so desperate for attention that he provided a handsome reward. At the bare minimum, a trip to Montyâs guaranteed free booze and conversation with someone who almost comprehended Shakespeare. If Withnail was lucky, Monty would press a few notes into his hand on the way out. It was a rare occasion where Withnail actually got paid for acting.
(Full fic continues below the cut)
The real difficulty with Monty was that he was a thespian. He could recognize if Withnail was also engaging in the craft. To win him over, Withnail needed to execute a deeply realistic performance. He picked up more acting experience hobnobbing with Monty than he ever did in university.
Of course, there was an easier solution. If Withnail got some whisky into the man, his job was significantly easier.
As long as Withnail braved the journey into the countryside a few times a year, Monty was extremely generous with gifts. Of course he was. The man had plenty of money and no other use for it. He certainly couldnât spend his inheritance by himself. Because of his silly gardening habit, Monty barely even needed to buy food.
Withnail could not say the same of his father.
He couldnât understand it. What was the point of having children if you didnât want to provide for them? Sure, Withnail didnât want to share any scraps of money he came across with the little buggers, but that was why he didnât have any to begin with. Withnailâs father chose to procreate. Yet the second Withnail was grown, he abandoned his duty.
What Withnail really wanted was for the bastard to die. He was a cheapskate in life, but Withnail had seen his will. He was guaranteed a handsome payout as soon as the man croaked. When Withnail was truly broke, so bereft of money that he couldnât afford his eu de vie, he thought up ways to obtain it. People would notice if he popped out of London on the same day that his father died mysteriously. Withnail needed a scheme that could be executed from afar. Usually, he favored poisonâit was obviously the neatest solution âbut in his more vindictive moods, he daydreamed about hiding a bomb in his post. In some ways, that was a more sensible plan. The explosion would destroy all the evidence.
There was one good thing about Withnailâs father. It could be argued that he gave Withnail the greatest gift of all. Not life itselfâthat was a cosmic accident and would easily have gone awry if his father got randy on the wrong dayâbut something equally as important. Every great hero was formed by adversity. Where would Moses be if his mother never sent him away, Odysseus if he stayed with Penelope, or Henry V if he was not thought a fool? Most protagonists (save Moses) waited years for a trauma to form them. Withnail didn't have to waste any precious time. His father ensured that he was miserable from the moment of his birth. He was the one who gave Withnail that joke of a name: Vivian.
His father knew exactly what lie in wait for Withnailâhe named him after himself. The man knew exactly how cruel children were to a boy with a girl's name, and still, he passed his misfortune along. Withnail was the inevitable result. Every year of schoolyard taunting shaped him into the man he was.
That was the true purpose of family, as far as Withnail was concerned; to ensure that right from the cradle, every man learned that life was nothing more than one long exercise in torment.
